Question About Play-By-Play

The play-by-play in SOM2005 includes an entry on each batter for
"pitch count". My question(s):

1) How is this value determined or derived?

2) Of what possible value is this information?

3) Wouldn't the actual dice roll information be of more interest?

if it has to do with ptich counts my only guess is that itsthat certain batters take more pitches and will wear pitchers down

Pitch count is purely for commentary. It has no effect on the game.

thanks Gored, I understand what it IS and its relevance in real life.
But, as Stoney points out, it has no effect in Strat. If I understand the
rules, pitcher fatigue is determined by innings and/or outs, along with
results of last batters faced, along with how much he's thrown lately.
I don't see anything relating to pitch count or how it's determined from
the cards. My guess is it's a random, purely cosmetic entry, like the
attendance figure. I do see that it's totaled in the pitcher's line of the box score.

I do not see how it affects a hitters performance - in Strat - at all.

I guess my real concern(s) are that since it is cosmetic, yet random, it
could be that it is detrimental to the true "randomness" of the process of
determing outcomes. I've looked at some wish-list and suggestions
threads about showing us the actual rolls in the playbyplay, and I agree
it would be a great improvement. Besides being able to determine
if that 9th inning HR came off of your closer or the other guy's hitter,
it would help us keep those running the game honest.

NOT that I'm accusing anyone of dishonesty - but in my short time with
this game I've seen some seemingly very unlikely injury patterns.

Thanks for your help :!:
