Check out this link concerning optimising lineups. Does this apply to Strato, bearing in mind the fact that many managers like having clutch ability at #5. I have used the card values to compute OBP and Slugging and am thinking of using these models to construct my lineup. What does anyone think?

Putting your 5th best hitter #3 seems quite counter-intuitive to me, and the reason for doing so is not very well justified. Perhaps the #3 has the most chances with 2 outs/none on base, but it is also the spot that has the most 2 on/no out....putting your 5th best hitter is like giving up on the big inning possibility, it seems to me.
Anyway, here is another one to check out:

you fill in your line-up, and they come up with the ideal line-up.

Here is what the system came up with...(vs rhp)
snow
walker
hairston
rolen
pierre
figgins
quinlan
everett
Burke
Rolen 4th and Pierre 5th...hmmmm....let me think about it...
That being said, the line-up I usually have only differs from 0.04 from this best potential line-up.

I had seen the baseball musings lineup tool as well. I have put some teams through it and some of the most productive lineups are happily, similar to some of my lineups. What do you think of the tools? Any use?

Hey that's interesting but it doesn't take into account speed, stealing, bunting skills, who hits into too many double plays, etc. What is OBA?

Just another name for OBP. Apparently speed, bunting etc not as important. I guess it could be modified to take account of strat "needs", such as low Dp at #2 and decent clutch at #5.

Thanks Shankly. I couldn't figure out if it was referring to OBP or BA.

Interesting thread, I just ran my new lineup and it came up with Kotsay in leadoff and Pierre batting 9th.

Also we must remember that there are LH and RH splits we are working with here.
