Question about Bonds

Question about Bonds

Postby PossibleJohn » Thu Mar 09, 2006 7:01 pm

Is there some secret as to what Y.A. stands for? I understand why they were unable to call him "Bonds" in Strat, but why these two initials?

I always imagined it stood for "You A**hole"--am I wrong?

I think thru the years, that SOM itself did not get permission in time to have the players names on cards. In Barry's instance however, it was because Barry does not permit his name, or likeness to be used without permission.

Anyhoo, thru the years, there were a couple of instances of such, and, I am guessing, they started with the initials A. A., and, they are up to Y now

So, that would make 25 times this has happened, I assume

PS

This is ALL AN ASSUMPTION, and ya know what they say when you ASS-U-ME

Bonds [i:87d3958f92]is[/i:87d3958f92] a member of the MLBPA, but has opted out of the licensing agreement that covers the licensing of their names to games like this. That is a first, as far as I know. There have been a bunch of "nameless" players in the game, because of the 1994-95 strike. Anyone who crossed the picket line (which included a couple of decent players like Rick Reed, Kevin Millar, and Benny Agbayani, as well as a bunch of complete scrubs) was not allowed in the union and thus had this same type of two-letter name. Eventually, the union did allow the scabs to join. But especially in 1995 and a couple of seasons afterwards, there were quite a few of these guys.

SOM has said that the initials "Y.A." were arrived at randomly. I have no reason to disbelieve them; I'm sure you could come up with something disparaging that literally any two letters might stand for, but that doesn't really prove anything.
