why cant hal take defense into consideration when subbing during game or for inj player before a game in 80's I have Mcgwire a 2e8 as dh and valle a 4 e25 as my back up catcher why doesnt hal use Mcgwire at 1st and valle or preferably someone else as dh instead of other way around when my starting 1b goes down

HAL will never take a DH in the lineup and switch him to a position in the wake of an injury. If McGwire is on the bench, his superior slugging would likely result in his use as a defensive replacement under those circumstances. Your DH selection is locked into that position during gameplay, however.
