Gomes and Cantu

Anyone try these righties with some pop (but horrible defense)? I am looking at these two as alternatives for a righty power park.

Gomes is a lot of bang for the buck, whether he is DH'ed or not.

I look at this way. From playing 1969 a little, some teams obviously hid their "DH" in LF or 1B. Rico Carty for example was all hit no glove. But there is no way you don't find a spot for someone who is one of the best 10-15 hitters in the world at a given time.

Edgar Martinez is another example. I once watched make FOUR ERRORS IN ONE GAME at the Kingdome back in the day. Eventually they never let him go within 10' of a glove because they could. But in 1969, he would have been a first baseman.

Gomes gives you a chance to play with two DHs, in a year where hitters who can hit both R and L are at a premium.

It is interesting you are talking about Gomes and Cantu. In my first two 2006 teams I have Gomes at DH on one and Cantu at DH on the other. Gomes at US Cell and Cantu at Minute Maid. Cantu is underpriced as a DH because they don't add value for his defense. I would never play him at 2B and only play him at 3B in an emergency. In a power park for RH hitters I think Cantu is a good value.....as a DH. Cantu has positive clutch but hits into a million DPs. His best park would be Minute Maid where he would see even more RHP.

Gomes is deffinately the better of the two since you could get away with playing him in the OF if you had to.

Mahalo for the replies! I am putting together a Minute Maid team. I would love to have ManRam and Vlady, but I am preparing in case I don't get one of those guys. Besides Gomes and Cantu, I like Murton, Alou and the popular Shelton.
