how is SP vs SP* determined

Im wondering how this determined????????????


Im assuming its based on innings pitched...........??

It's one of those arcane SOM decisions. ...some combination of innings, # of starts, and maybe frequency of starts.

...its a little unpredictable. For example, in 2003 Jason Schmidt didn't get the SP* even though he pitched over 200 innings (he had 29 starts). Call Hal Richman for more details. 8)

yes i noticed that eric milton ..186 innings is a SP*...yet some guys with over 190 are not...so now im more confused

I remember reading somewhere that you have to have like 180 innings [i:10454e13a5]and[/i:10454e13a5] 32 starts to get the start rating, but I don't know if that was accurate or not. It would explain why Milton got the rating and Schmidt didn't though. I've wondered about this, too... I'm just glad Noah Lowry got the rating this season!
