Why won't this team win?

6.09 ERA. Hmmm Lets see... I am sure if you add and drop some more the team will get even better!

Now my question is, why won't this team win: http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2006/team/team_other.html?user_id=567

Canuk, what are your relief setting? Looks like your two best relievers aren't getting any work.

too much money spent on pitching in a hitters park!

seems to me to win in coors budget starters... couple of studs in the pen, couple of sub 2 mil guys in the pen and 2 or more hard scrubs 1 left one right.

then spend the rest on hitting.

You have too many pitchers with too many # on their cards for the ballpark and not enough hitters with enough # on their cards. So your ballpark really works against you. To play in an extreme hitters park you have to make sure you get the right mix of players or you are in trouble. Not enough to have good pitchers they have to be the right ones with either no # at all or just 1 on each side. More than that and their ERA will skyrocket in my experience.

And if you are going to play in an extreme hitters park you have to expect to give up some runs no matter who you have pitching. That means your hitters better be able to take advantage of the park to score you some runs. In other words an extreme park requires extreme players. You get them in the draft and you are in business. You miss out and well just buy another credit cause this season is a learning experience.

Speaking about the original poster's team, way too much spent on relief which is not getting used ($15), Garland has too many ballpark homeruns (# results) against lefties for that park, and you have several players with huge injury chances (F.Thomas, B.Crosby, and L.Walker).

Hey guys, thanks for your help. Well those two relievers I just picked up yesterday. Hopefully they will get used more. I had Qualls and Politte and they were awful. :(

I had Kazmir due to no BPHRs on his card and his ERA was 9! and WHIP of like 2! My relief pitchers seem to be blowing a lot of games.

I understand about the pitching situation but I thought I had guys who could hit the ball. I just don't get it.

Hey BED, that Coors pitching is definitely better than mine. lol

hey there canuck,

I don't see many problems with your team. I see you've gotten some really good input so far and maybe a few too many unlucky rolls. I see you've done some changes with your team. Let's see how they pan out.

I'm very slow getting up to speed with this year's set since I've been quite busy, but at first glance I think your lineups have been played in a very interesting way. For example, you've been playing Frank Thomas 4th and Sweeney 7th, I would probably have thomas 3rd, sweeney 5th and Arod 4th. Pudge and Edmonds as 1 and 2 sounds interesting, I'll have to look at their cards before I comment on that, but at first sight I'm not entirely sold on that. I think you upgraded you SS defense from crosby to Wilson...good move, IMO. his offense might be low but the D will help. Let's see how the moves work out. I'll touch base later on when I have some time to go through your cards a bit better.

BTW, the usual disclaimer, I am not very good in coors, I have only played it twice, once in 05 and once in 06, both are parts of an experiment in a slightly different approach to pitching in coors, but like stoney can tell you, the experiment is not too hot at the moment...oh well, at least we're learning, eh?
Hope your team bounces and gets you that elusive ring. 8)

O.K. I'm a bit lost with your roster Looney-Canuck, how are you playing Garabito/Thomas? are you platooning them? How are you playing Crosby/Wilson? Wilson as def & injury replacement?

BED/SGT-D the way I usually do links is by going to league -> stats then I right click on my team select "copy shortcut" from the drop menu and then I paste it here in the boards.
