Peter Gammons

lifetime RedSox ass kisser or informed and objective professional?
Peter Gammons is headed to the HOF as a member of the media. I admit I am not overly familiar with his print work(newspapers, books). I understand he introduced the concept of weekly(Sunday) baseball pages comprised of quick hits/rumors from around the leagues. Wow, who would of thought of that?
All I know is that his effort as a broadcaster is horrendous. He is the consumate homer. All he talks about is the Red Sox. Even when the subject is of another vain he will somehow, someway manage to insert a Red sox comment/comparison into the disscussion. He makes wild /bold statements and predictions that leave one shaking their head. Example: He stated last week on ESPN Baseball Tonight that Curt Schilling is a lock for the HOF when he retires. What the F? The dude is almost 40 and doesn't even have 200 wins. He helps the Sox to the World Series victory and in Gammons twisted world he becomes a HOF'er.
Everytime I hear Gammons profess future greatness on another up and comer I think of the time he argued that the future of baseball in Canada(Montreal specificaly) depended upon the fantastic talents ofPeter Bergeron who Gammons was certain would win a MLB batting crown. For the record Bergeron was last seen finsihing his career in Washington sporting a lifetime.224 avg.
Now on Sunday Night Baseball his job is to broadcast from the stands from the perpective of the average Joe. Ugh. If I have to suffer through Joe Morgan's circuitous discourse than the last thing I need is Gammons stuttering spit spewing grumblings from the stands.
Just had to get that off my chest...thanks for listening.
