hals pen usage and def substitution

there has been a lot of discussion about Hal's use of the pens. I used to be fervently anti-hal when it came to the bullpen but to be fair if you have a deep pen hal will do a much better job of bullpen mgt. however his def substitution is terrible. I have conine in lf and Wilkerson in cf. Conine goes down at the start of the series and for the next game instead of putting Mckracken in left he takes Wilkerson out of cf where I have designated him to play and puts Mckracken in cf. This lack of sensible judgement happens all the time and for me is the main weakness of online strat

Agree on both points. A defensive depth chart (just for the purpose of injury substitutions, in addition to the existing late-inning defensive replacement preferencing) would clean up this wiggy bit of programming and make the best online baseball game on the planet even a little better.
Bernie, if you're lurking, weighted waivers and a defensive depth chart would be two awesome tweaks to this game.

I doubt the defensive depth chart is within Bernie's power. It is my assumption that the game engine itself, which is simply the CD ROM game loaded into TSN's system, is completely out if Bernie's control. Inside the game is where such a change would have to occur.
Bernie can only tweak drafting/league options, but not HAL or the game engine.
Tell me I'm wrong.

I think you are right bleacher however why was bernie looking into bullpen usage? he must have something up his sleeve

Bernie posted earlier that he now has some limited access to the game engine coding for the TSN version. This was not the case in pevious years as far as I know.
Also, weighted waivers is already a feature for 2006 game, for which I am grateful. Advanced leagues only I believe.

I have a team with 6 rp's so hal has plenty of options. It includes Carrera (2L) and Sanchez (6R).
Left to his own devices in a league with a pretty even split between lefty and righty hitters, hal has put Carrera in to face predominantly righties, and Sanchez has faced mostly lefties. Now--I did not designate that either "avoid " hitters, but it just puzzles me that HAL doesn't take the pitcher's strength into account when he makes his decisions.
Why would he do the opposite of what common sense and managerial acumen would suggest?
Could it be perhaps it's because he's........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....................SATAN :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :evil:
