Mop up?

if you select "mop up" for a pitcher, what does this do, aside from the obvious?

the obvious being, the team is losing by a lot and this pitcher is brought in to pitch until the game is over

does the "mop up" setting have any other effect? I typically make my 5th required starter (I usually use a 4 man rotation) the mop up man. Does the assignment of mop up duties limit the pitchers role in any other way?

I've found that if I designate a starter/reliever as the mop up guy, HAL never, and I mean never, uses the pitcher. I'm more than half way through a 2006 season and my s/r mop up guy hasn't faced one batter.

If you designate a pure reliever as a mop up guy, HAL will use him whenever he wants.

HAL will rarely use a S/R guy if he is in your rotation. I have not noticed any other limitations on a S/R guy designated as mop up when he is not listed in the five man rotation.

I don't have him listed in my rotation and HAL still won't use him.
