I just found this out today. I have been playing the on-line game since it began in '02 and have been doing this setting wrong for 4 years!
It concerns the Aggressive/Normal/Conservative setting for Relief Pitchers in Managerial Settings. This is how it works:
This setting is for how your Relief Pitching will be used [b:3d4a902111]after[/b:3d4a902111] the SP's have been pulled. IOW, it has [b:3d4a902111]nothing[/b:3d4a902111] whatsoever to do with when your Starters get pulled. I had mistakenly (for all these years) thought that it was a gauge as to when your starters would get pulled. For example, pulled quickly if on aggressive and so forth.
I thank QK for mentioning this in a league thread today, or perhaps I would have never known this.
I was wondering if I am the only person out there that had this wrong. If so, color me embarrassed. Would love to hear some of yall's thoughts.

I was under the same impression, that is, if your setting is aggressive and your S7 pitcher struggles early, they get yanked. I use this setting a lot if I have a solid and deep bullpen and fairly cheap starting pitching. I never saw anything that really explained one way or the other what the settings meant but I guess I just assumed.

I had the same impression as you did, Jeepdriver, that it had to do with [b:e219484b6d]when [/b:e219484b6d]the starters were pulled. I also take it to mean that with the setting on aggressive your relief pitchers would be yanked earlier. I assume that is correct?
This is huge...

This is a huge piece of information. I thought it affected [b:d696d268b9]BOTH[/b:d696d268b9].
So the starters are only controlled by individual settings. This is fantastic.

I don't think QK will mind me posting this quote of his on that thread I was referring to:
[quote:10d1e5779f]Semp - agressive/conservative/normal has zero to do with your SPs. It only affects the frequency with which HAL will pull your RPs once the SPs have left the game. QuickHook is the only setting which gets SPs out sooner & affects POW checks, otherwise it'd be redundant with the pen settings.[/quote:10d1e5779f]

We need to find the hell out. In the past it has seemed that "aggressive" causes HAL to pull the plug on starters sooner.

I vaguely recall cristano posting a while back that changing this setting on the CDRom game affected how many innings the starters got for a season..... ergo... it affects when they are pulled in a game.
just a little bit o kerosine for this fire!!! :?

Guys - will share where I'm coming from. I read the manual back in '02 when I 1st got the CD-ROM. Not sure I have it now, but the gist of what I remember is that the 'pen setting was meant to control exactly that - the 'pen & not the starters. The Aggressive 'pen settings were meant to enable the manager to "LaRussa" the pen, meaning bring a different situational arm in, so the code there overemphasizes hitter matchups.
That said, I should probably backpedal from my hyperbole above which says the 'pen settings have zero to do with pulling starters. I should have said it has zero to do with considering them tired. The manual indicated that Quick Hook was the way to get SPs out of a game earlier, and I firmly believe that is the case.
What Cristano may have referred to is that on Aggressive, if the matchup is unfavorable to the SP, then HAL may reach for an RP quicker & therefore it would impact the SP coming out, so in that sense it's true that there's an impact.
To clarify the context of my post which Jeep quoted here, we were having a discussion about HAL pulling an SP when the settings are on Conservative for pen (i.e. the mgr in question was trying to get as much out of his SPs as possible) and I stick to my belief that the Conservative settings don't impact the SP in that scenario, it would only impact an RP who was already in the game & leave him in vs. a hitter that was a potentially poorer matchup in order to get more innings out of the current RP & not blow the 'pen.
