Sutcliffe

He is one of my least favorite announcers/commentators. He praises everyone like they just won the Triple Crown, and is basically just annoying, IMO.

Here's an article from today's Atlanta paper (on-line) where it appears he got in trouble, although I doubt they will be any repercussions. Nevertheless, quite amusing:

I actually heard him on the air.

Sounded like Rick had a few too many beers.

ive heard it as well. my feeling is he is only guilty of poor judgement, going on the air after having a few. im suprised the booth left him, you would have thought they would have had a feeling he was under the infulance.....but he is taking responsibility for his actions.

I have absolutely nothing personal against Sutcliffe, and find his charade amusing actually. However, he [b:733074ab72]has no choice[/b:733074ab72] but to take responsibilty due to his job. It's easy to own up to something once you're caught in a lie. I find this no different than that. You think ESPN would keep him on if he didn't offer an apology?

I lived kitty corner from a Wrigley Field bar in the late 80's, early 90's. I was good friends with a girl who was a waitress at the bar. The owner used to hold after hours parties for Cubs players and the staff would have to work these affairs.

Sutcliffe was one of the regulars at these parties. My friend said that he was the only player who didn't treat the workers like dirt, he was very nice. As opposed, to, say, Mark Grace, who was a world class a**hole.

Jeepdriver is not talking about wether Sutcliffe is a nice guy or not. I am sure he is a very decent guy as far as I know however his play-by-play really sucks. Every player is an all-star in his eyes. I know exactly what you are saying jeepdriver.

Joe Morgan and Jon Miller are my favorite tandem. Morgan makes good points at times but sometimes it seems like his partner has to pull the information out of him. Jon Miller is really good and he is a true SOMer too!

I enjoyed Orel Hershiser in the booth in a game I saw a week or so ago. Sutcliffe just stinks as a TV commentator.

Bert Blyleven is the best commentator, very knowledgeable, funny, and should be in the Hall of Fame. He had 60 shutouts, 287 wins, too numerous to count 2-1 and 1-0 defeats, 2 World Series rings, is in the top ten all time for strikeouts, had the premier curveball of his era ( maybe ever), was durable, and played for one lousy team after another.
