Good old-fashioned, edge of your seat theater. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs against lights-out closer Billy Wagner, Jason Ellison (.677 OPS, $620,000, by the way) connects for a 3-run blast to send the Tech Dweebs II to an improbable walk-off victory. The key play happened an inning earlier, in the top of the 8th, when the Dweebs squashed a bases-loaded, no out situation with a [b:9f45979d97]triple play[/b:9f45979d97] turned on a lineout by Eric Chavez to keep the score at 2-0 and to put Ellison in the position to win it in the 9th.

Carlos Zambrano must really want the Cy Young Award

Carlos Zambrano got wins in consecutive games.

In the first game of the series, Zambrano was used as a pinch hitter in the 10th inning (with a player injured, the bench was out of players). HAL left him in for the 11th inning to pitch (with one reliever still in the pen) and Zambrano beat em 1-2-3. Andruw Jones won it with a HR in the 11th.

The very next day, Zambrano took a no-hitter into the 6th inning of the next game, pitching 7 1/3 for his 25th win of the season.

Bruce Chen earns save without throwing a pitch!

In what has to qualify as one of the stranger boxscore occurances, Bruce Chen earned a save without throwing a single pitch! Here's how he did it.

Roberto Hernandez was throwing in relief in the bottom of the 9th inning for Randy Johnson for the Susquehanna Defenders in what was a 3-2 ballgame. He was able to get 2 out both by ground outs. However, M. Giles of the Ligers was able to single. With the tying run on first, manager Alexx Daimler called for Bruce Chen who is usually his long reliever but had actually made an audition start only 2 games before. Alexx had already used 3 relievers in the past 1 and 2/3rds inning and went with his middle inning ace.

With Giles taking a large lead, he tempted fate for his bottom-of-the-league franchise. With that Chen throws over to first and picks off Giles for the third out and the game and save all without throwing a pitch across home plate.

Amazing.

Lance Berkman goes 5 for 5 with 5 RBIs, (single and 4 HRs). He continues the Twinkies win streak to 5 games with a solo blast in the 11th inning to win the game. For the series, the Twinkies swept then league-leading No Punch Offense to run win streak to 6 games and now 9-1 in last ten games.
