How Can I Get HAL to Pinch Hit More?

I guess I'll post the team so you can see which players I am platooning:

The players I have set to avoid weak side are:

C Fasano/Mauer
2B Carroll/(Kennedy - no, okay to face lefties)
RF Derosa (avoid R)

I guess it's mainly Fasano who is racking up the ABs vs R.

Pinch hitters are Fasano vs L, and Mauer vs R.

Does HAL only pinch hit in late/close situations? Any insight would be appreciated.

Here's one theory I just thought about - HAL doesn't like to use catchers to pinch hit, unless you have a 3rd one on the bench (injury considerations).
