Is an injury always an injury?

Is an injury always an injury?

If the reading on a card indicates 'something + injury', does the player always get injured (even if only for the rest of the game) or does the reference to how long the injury lasts have a chance that there was no injury at all?

No. Some rolls, especially for those above 600+ PA, have no injury as a result.

Except those players with an injury rating of "0," like A-Rod, anybody can be injured. For those with 600 PAs or more, the limit is three days on the DL; all others may be injured up to 15 games. It depends on the split card.

realistic injury probabilities

Postby JEFFFESPERMAN » Sat May 27, 2006 11:25 am

I for one hope that Stratomatic will revise its injury chart to reflect the actual number of games that a player played in a season. For example, Andruw Jones played in 160 of 162 games, but in my last season he came up lame four times and missed 11 games. This correction would also make it impossible for part-time major league players to be perennial Stratomatic all-stars.

I've been hit with this quirk before too. I think one of the worst I remember was with Vernon Wells in the 2002 set. He played in 159 games and had 608 AB (giving him the favorable lose only 3 games max due to injury), yet I lost him for 12 games total for the season. That really, really shouldn't happen, but it must be uncommon enough that most players don't care.

I would like to see a more realistic handling of these cases too, but I see little chance of adoption of a strict rule that limits player appearances to the max number of games they appeared in last season. That pretty much changes a basic premise of the strat engine.

One other note:

If someone has[b:48f6876342] 675[/b:48f6876342] Plate Appearances or more, they can only be injured for the remainder of that game. They will not be injured 3 games.

If that's the case then they have changed it this year.

The official FAQ says that a player has to have 680+ PA to have injury restricted to "remainder of game". Between 600-679 PA, the FAQ says that maximum injury is 3 games. I found this out the hard way since I also have Miguel Cabrera on a team, and he has missed 11 games out of 144 played so far in that league.

It sounds like you want each player to perform just exactly like he did in real life. Are you saying that each player should play only the exact same number of games he played in real life? Maybe we shouldn't allow players to play in other parks either, or pitch a guy more innings than he pitched.

Part of the skill (and fun, IMO) of the game is identifying the bargain players who are underpriced. Who's to say what might have happened if these guys played a full season?
