I still can't believe I landed all my starters (ranked 2 through 5...and I still got the 2nd overall waiver spot...go figure)

Anyway, has there been much success in an $80 million cap league for a team with a stud rotation? I've got a fairly respectable lineup in a pitchers park. The defense up the middle is pretty solid. I welcome your thoughts and experiences.

durham/renteria are dh, cabrera playing 3rd.

i'm amazed at the total lack of "chatter" in this league throughout the entire waiver process. What's up with that?

I will play devil's advocate here and tell you that you may be overspending on pitching in a park where mediocre pitchers get 18 wins.

This team just one a championship:

As you can see my pitching held up great and my hitters outslugged my oposition at home. Just another way to go.

Good luck.

Team looks decent to me. Good pitching (maybe a bit too much), defense up the middle nice, and some ok hitting. I'm not too keen on Beltran at CF on this team and in this park, but I'm just looking for minor chinks in the armor. Nice job overall.

You are playing Alou in the OF? Does he even own a glove?

Besides his defense he can't throw either. You have two + arms in the OF which isn't good. You can hide one, but two?

Renteria's card looks surprisingly good vs LHP. I would get a better hitter vs RHP to platoon with him at DH though. Either go with Durham full time or get a more slanted hitter vs RHP to platoon IMO. Is Alex Sanchez available? He would be a great full time DH on your team. If not how about Lenny Harris to DH vs RHP and platoon with Renteria.

I'm not sure this team will score enough runs to compete but you never know till you try.

Good Luck.

Since we're picking nits. Raul Chavez will hit all of .150 (maybe) in your park, and only if he faces all righties. How about dropping Chavez and one of your other catchers and upgrading a bit?

I know you want Oswalt, but you can find a little more scrum by dropping and picking up someone like Vazquez. with two right leaning starters, it won't hurt you immensely -- particularly with a Shea and a lot of lefty bats in your division.

Even with stud starters, your pen may get taxed early: You have three left-balanced lefties in your pen -- maybe find a reverse lefty or someone more balanced to eat up some innings.

Good luck!

excellent team

good job on drafting a couple of minor changes and you should be fine I think you need to upgrade c you obviously dont need three. cf beltran will not hit here and dh get and upgrade over durham harris branyan and piedra are three that come to mind although there are more harris is particuarly good in petco

you may have overspent on starters I would think about dropping down with carpenter or oswalt to address your pen and hitting

good luck

I think there is nothing wrong with that staff....

Same basic principle. I think your team can do well, though I really don't like Alou either. If you're gonna go that injury prone, why not just get Mag Ordonez and a decent backup? Or use the extra money for a decent catcher? Is Redmond available? Either way, you do NOT need 3 catchers as the 2nd one will not be injured after 1 is gone.

thanks guys. funny comment on alou not owning a glove. I've looked at this several different ways. i actually like durham as dh. i believe his price is low because he plays 2B like Sorryano. Alou did great for my yankee stadium team - and surprisingly well against righties. i had a heart-to-heart with him after that championship season and he begged me to let him on my next team. i felt i owed it to him. he has agreed to take extra fielding practice, so we're hoping on some improved defense.

interesting thing about the $80 million cap. plenty of good players available after draft and waivers. everyone seems gone in the $100 million league.

if nothing else it'll be fun to see how this staff does. at least this way the team has a strong identity. we'll see.

besides....this team is free!!!!! so i'm playing with house money !!!!! :D
