Can a weak batter hit a HR off the pitchers card?

Postby durantjerry » Mon Jun 05, 2006 7:16 pm

I thought they could not, but I just noticed(after 3 or 4 years) that at least some pitchers cards don't have the N-HR that I grew up with. It just says HOMERUN. Does the batter still need to have "N" Power to actually receive credit for the "HOMERUN" die roll off the pitchers card. I think the answer is yes, or else Pods could hit double figures in some of these parks. Thanks.

The answer is yes. Any batter can hit a HR off of the pitchers card. The only time that the hitter has to be a N power is when dealing with the BPHR symbol.

No, that's incorrect. Only N power hitters can hit HR off pitchers' cards.

It is still possible, however, for W hitters with no HR on their own cards to hit a HR; very unlikely, but possible. On a fly(OF)X to a 4 fielder, there is a .14% chance of a "triple + rare play" reading where the outfielders collide and the batter gets an inside-the-parker. If it's a 5 fielder, then it's a .28% chance on a fly(OF)X to them. It's also possible for a speedy batter to stretch a triple into an inside-the-parker.

Doesn't the Home run off a pitcher's card against a W hitter still convert to a single**?

LMBombers,

I do remember that pitchers in old Strat cards had sometimes direct homerun cards, and (more frequently) N-HR readings, and I do remember as well that weak hitters were robbed of the N-HR only.

My guess is that Strat has decided to abadon the distinction altogether, and now only have direct homerun which must be read as N-HR.

Confused, eh?

That was what I was going on. My friends and I played lots of Strat with the real cards around 1978-83 or so. When I graduated HS in 83 I stopped playing Strat untill I found this great online game! :D

You're all wrong :D A W batter hitting a HR on pitchers card is changed to Single*.. Runners advance only one base not two... :D
