What do you know about ballpark homers?

I'm playing my first ever team in US Cell...the new generations homerdome even if it's single** unfriendly.

Pitching-wise, I went with low homer guys who don't allow a lot of hits either. Ballpark singles won't be a problem and I have fairly pitcher-friendly parks on the road (including Camden, Kauffman and Turner). I'm confident I have a workable staff, even if I overspent for Rivera.

My problem is I always overestimate the strength of my lineup when I have a park with a high BPHR rating. Give me the straight truth about my lineup: Do I have enough to slug at home without washing out on the road? My L/R splits are strong...but I can't tell if I'll be okay home/road.

I play US Cell very frequently and with decent success. Here are my criticisms:

I don't like Casey or Schneider for the park. Schneider's arm is his primary asset and SBs are really not much of an issue in the Cell. It's all about HRs. You can get away with a + arm behind the plate and you are better off with guys like Fasano, Stinnett et al. I have had good success with Posada in 06 who is reasonably priced. Casey will underperform and when he does peform it will be with singles, which aren't as important in your park. I like Olerud, Carlos Pena and Branyan (with a platoon) as cheap 1b US Cell solutions.

Pitching-wise you are on the right track for the most part as the guys you have are well-designed for the park. But, you have mixed * and non* starters, which is inefficient and you have spent a bit too much $ on starters as a whole. Find the thread on "The Secret Formula." It applies well to US Cell. It recommends spending approximately $18 mil on starters and 14 million on relievers. It works in the Cell. If you spend 20 on starters, spend 12 on relievers. This is not gospel, but it's a good guide. You have two very good * starters. You can get by with three relatively cheap non * guys in between. Guys I like include Thomson, Cook, Bedard. Look for a few balanced relievers with no HRs like Dejean, Guerrier, Shields, et al.

In answer to your last question I think you need a little more pop, not for road games but to dominate at home. Gas Casey and Schneider and find some BP HRs. If you have to, you can get away with a player like Frank Thomas or Reggie Sanders who will give you HRs on the cheap (along with frequent injuries).

Good luck

If it were me, I'd listen to him.

You could dump your 3 bottom SP's for Chacin, Vargas and Thomson..

that would afford you to pick up Burrell for LF (a MUCH better #2 hitter than Casey) and Gibbons for 1b

Very small sample size of course, but I had Stinnett at Minute Maid, and he was just absolutely miserable. He was platooned to play vs. R (his good side), but still only hit 210/253/337, and made 22 errors. I felt ripped off paying even $.77M for that level of play.
