1969 game---any opinions/WWII Flicks (fun thread)

oops! Forgot to talk about the 69 league! I only have two teams so far and while the novelty of new players and the thinner player pool is interesting for the moment, I don't see it holding my long term interest the way ATG II does.

"The Story of G.I. Joe," with one of Robert Mitchum's first big roles. A grunt's-eye view of the war based on Ernie Pyle's journalism, tough and gritty, surprisingly downbeat given that it came out before the war had ended. Tough to find on video, but turns up on AMC every once in a while.

"Cross of Iron" is directed by one of the all-time kickass directors, Sam Peckinpaugh of "The Wild Bunch" fame.

How about "The Bridge on the River Kwai"? Not exactly a war movie in the classic sense, starring Obi-Wan-Kinnobe and Bill Holden, but an awesome movie!!!

Haven't played 69 yet, played out the whole season in 1970 the old fashioned way!!

My cousin used to teach a film class at Houston University. His required film for the course..."Das Boat." My all time favorite cold war movie...."Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb."

Who can forget "The Great Escape" with Steve McQueen as the Cooler King, and also "Stalag 17" which of course led to "hogan's heroes".
