I can't understand why this is an issue. If a team not going to the playoffs sat guys at the end of the season (Buck?), that would be an issue. If a team going to the playoffs does, that's normal and right. If anything, the guy competing with the team playing that guy for a spot could argue that he's prejudiced by the extraordinary step of regulars playing when, from the perspective of the manager's interest in the team, they obviously should not.
I don't much like arguments like the one I note above, myself. If I lose out on the last weekend (which I'm seldom even in a position to do), I figure I shouldn't blame anyone but the dumbo who drafted my team. (OK, and maybe HAL in certain cases). Bottom line, everyone is obviously free to do what they think is right, but I think the most ethical course is for each manager to keep his team's interests first and foremost.
