Building an all pitching and defense team. Which combo would you rather have????

Larry Doby, Gene Nelson and Dave Giusti

OR

Cesar Geronimo, Willie Hernandez and Gene Nelson

Here's the team. Three pitchers parks and one Fenway '67 in division.

I think Dave Giusti is Gone I'd have wanted him.

I would perform radical surgery for the following reasons:

Your entire infield is W's Doran, Dempsey Gardner and Bowa and Gandil. Larry Bowa is going to hurt you. With a team like this to score you will be walk/single bunt GB to 3rd you need positive clutch to get runs in and Doran and Bowa will add nothing. While Doby is good in the clutch on this team he will not do much. I would do the following:

You also have no real leadoff hitter and there are no remedies and that will hurt:

Pitchers: Keep
Alexander, Pfeister McClain

cut the rest

Pick UP
Driesward 0.60
Fosnow 1.40
Sisk 0.68
Pattin .54
Nelson 3.38 (prefeer Giusit if comes available)
Catfish Hunter 1.64 Starts against righty teams in pitcher parks
D. Ruether 1.16 4th starter

If my calculations are correct and I only did it in my head you'll have 8.75 million to upgrade hitting along with the 600K you have. I'd

Cut:
Dempsey (I love him but you need offense here)
Bowa (Hate him)
Gardner (he's good but we need offense)
Doran (again I like him but we need clutch and "N")
Gandil (In a 60 million league maybe)

I'd leave the outfield alone

I'd pick up:

Chapman or Pesky - Pesky makes team a bit too lefty but he might be good here too
Steinfeldt
Evers
Luderus
Micky Cochrane

These moves hurt you defense but leave your top 3 pitchers with much much stronger offense. I'd then bat them

Meusel
Cochrane
Steinfeldt
Luderus
Doby
Clemente
Evers
Chapman

This leaves you with 3 great starters a steady but unspectacular offense.

Another potential move would be to keep Dempsey, Pick up Pesky and use the extra money to pick up Valentine to give you a 4-5 of Valentine Doby with Dempsey batting 8th Evers 7th and Chapman 6th. One advantage of that lineup is HAL will walk the hell out of Evers and then he can steal 2nd.
