Trying Yankee 56 ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

Postby jma500 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 11:24 pm

Playing in Yankee 56 for the first time (Other three stadiums are Dunn, Metro 65, Fenway 46)
Team so far looks like this;
Pitching is Koosman, Dean, Stewart, Key, Aguilera, Heinke, Richert, Kerfeld, Osinki, Brusstar
Hitting is; Schalk, Judge, Foxx, Crosetti, Robinson B, Snider, Stephenson, Snider
I have money to play with;
1. Should I upgrade starting or relief pitching
2. Or my hitting (catching, 1st, 2nd, 3rd or outfield)

Comments please :D

i found mid price left handers with a bias against lefties are valuable in yankee 56 and would be good at dunn(lolich, kaat,j hiller) to name a few.

Wish I could field a team with 2 Sniders. :)

You need as much LH power as possible. 4-5 guys min. You're not there yet.

And I second the motion that you find cheap LH pitching ala Kaat, Lolich, McGregor, Blue, McNally, etc.

At Yankee 56, and to some degree at Dunn, you need:

1. Even LH power - Snider, Cash, Mathews, Ott, Ruth, May, Dickey

2. RH OBP - Stephensen is OK, Wagner, Cleon types, Valentine is a great value

3. Value pitching (HRs on RH side) - Seaver, Carlton, Sutton, Kaat.

4. or platoons to get LH HR power, but not too many, Minch/Johnson, Nettles/Wera types

5. 1-2 hard LHs, Key is fine, McGregor is also good.

It appears That you have only a few of these type players.

None of those are good in your park. You need a whole new pen, that gets out LHH. Look for guys like Klippstein and Staley.

I have done many Y56 teams (and studied many others)

The best I have experienced are:
HITTERS
Eddie Mathews
Duke Snider
Reggie Jackson
Wes Covington
Milt May
Ben Oglivie
Joe Morgan
Stan Musial
Don Mincher (platoons well with Merkle)
Willie McCovey
Tris Speaker

mixed results with Murray, Powell, Reggie Smith...

PITCHERS
The higher priced lefties don't live up to the money it seems. I have had Koufax and Koosman struggle. I concur about the mid- to low-level pitchers.
I love Holtzman, Key, Lolich, Carlton, McNally...
I have not tried Tommy John yet, but want to.
I have seen good seasons out of Doug Rau, MacGregor, Kaat, Merritt, Hiller..
I have had an OK season out of Leifield and a poor one.
The best success seems to be lefties who lean to the left, like Key and Holtzman, because the ballpark will help balance the pitcher by negating much of the righty offense.
Bullpen-wise, I have had good seasons (though not overly consistent, but that's a HAL/bullpen topic for another thread) from Tincup, McEnaney, Willie Hernandez, Bennett... i think Beggs, but I'd have to look.

Enjoy!
