deepest/shallowest positions

New to ATG - what are deepest/shallowest positions in ATG? So, what positions should you try to nab early in a draft and what positions are you assured of quality even late in draft/waivers?

First base is the deepest. I think quality defensive 2b and ss are the more sought after commodities.

The player pool is VERY deep... you can put together a competitive team after the other 11 teams have drafted.
That said, if you are focused on certain types of players, there is certainly no guarantee that you'll get them. There are only a couple of SSs who will provide you with a lot of power; there aren't THAT many good hitting CFs with great arms, etc. etc.
It's easier to point out the deep positions... you can always find LFs and RFs, you can always find mid-ranged salary starting pitchers; you can always pick up a good cheap defensive SS or 2B. I never put any of those things near the top of my draft list. As Mr BBW said, QUALITY SS and 2B aren't common... Morgan, E. Collins, O. Smith, Yount, etc.

Top guys at the of spots are also sought after in particular cf. Catchers that can only get hurt for three games or less are very limited(3 I think, maybe 4) but after that there are a variety of options epending on your tolerance for risk of wasting dollars on someone who can get hurt for 15 games.
3b is not deep but I tend to use cheaper guys that I feel are servicable.

ed is right about the deep pool(unless you are in a 200 million dollar league)

Lots more than in 2005; 2005 was an exception. There have been teams with all 4 starters costing 10M+. If you want the top guys, though (Alexander, or guys like Clemens/McLain in a big ballpark) you need to draft them early. Unlike 200x, you won't find many top end relievers to spend money on. But you'll find lots of servicable ones under 4M.

There aren't that many good CF's or RF's or 3bmen. Just my two cents.
