Base running strategy question.

Just an unscientific observation, it seems HAL will take more chances late in the game when the result is on the line with stealing and baserunning. Meusel stole home in the 9th last night to tie a game.

I think increasing agressiveness against good SPs in pitcher parks is a good approach, but not with slugger teams in hitter parks.

I think you are correct.

Do you have Cobb (AAA/1-17) steal third?

It's a good question and it would be great if they let you know this.

One good way to see what HAL does is to play against HAL on the CD game. He does some strange stuff now and then. But I do think he takes some things into consideration. He will take a chance on stealing 2B with 2 outs if the next guy up is a good clutch hitter (or even the following guy). I've seen him go as low as 45% on this. Sometimes he just steals and you cannot imagine why. Set on aggresive he will try to steal third a lot.

All in all I would err on the side of caution, because I think overall HAL is a bit too aggressive.

My example of Leslie/Bowa/Pete was just that, an example to illustrate trying to score a slow runner against a strong pitcher with a poor clutch hitter due up.

I play a lot of games manually on the PC and this scenario happens all the time. Unless you play in a DH league, EVERY team has a weak hitter in the #9 spot. If you've got a Fenway 67 squad that's one thing, but I strongly agree with Petrosian about utilizing bunt/H&R/baserunning when playing smallball.
