ROOKIE blues

Postby jaybuc47 » Fri Feb 03, 2006 1:05 am

Hello all,
I have never played statomatic before, but atleast I'm still hanging in there at (14-16) right now.
Was wodering if some of you vets could possibly help me w/ a few questions?
I'm a liitle confused on a few topics such as:
:?: I understand your catcher has to come out every 5 games,so does that mean I have to bench him every other 3 game series(which takes place every night)?
Also with pitchers,I don't understand the mop up option. Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks'

I've never heard about the catcher thing............ As for "mop up" you will enjoy the antics of HAL, who will manage to thwart your best intentions with strange pitching substitutions!

Play your catcher as often as you like. There are no usage restrictions for any player in TSN/SOM on-line Strat.

Pitching substitutions are a mystery. I think "mop up" gives HAL the discretion to substitute that pitcher designated "mop up" into the game at any time he/she pleases. Much like all the other pitcher settings.

play your catcher as much as possible. NOW for HAL. bullpen is a mystery HAL comes up with some winners. Play around with it and get something that works and stick with it. It usually takes you ablout $100.00 to figure it out(4 seasons). :)

PS. if you have a N* and want to use hime as a closer on a regular basis make sure all your relief pitchers are a N* otherwise that gets real interesting as well.

ex. Herendez is a N*(one of the best relief seasons ever) and if you have a reliever without a N* HAL will sometimes choose him over Herendez.

If I am not real clear on this some of the pros on this site maybe able to explain it better. Tim

Thanks, theaman, on the relief pitching info! I was checking out some of my relief player cards, even the Hernandez one you had cited, and I do see the /N but the /N is followed with an @ sign on all cards, not a * sign. Little confused on that.

So.....I'm guessing, as long as ALL my RPs have the /N, I would then be safe to assume (uh-oh) that the RP I choose as a closer on a regular basis would in most cases be chosen by IBM, I mean HAL. Thanks!

Ok here goes nothing, I'll do my best here....

If your reliever has a number followed by @ the number indicated is the number of outs that pitcher is rated for in a save situation. For example, Worrell is rated 6@, this means that he could come in and not get fatigued(indicated by the @ sign on the cards). However if he comes in earlier than the eigth after he gets the sixth out, he would be in danger of becoming tired. This happens, I believe, if he gives up one or two hits after that final out he is rated for....So in theory if you had a staff of all N @, the closer you select should get a majority of the save opportunities....

I hope that is easy to understand, if not let me know! Hang in there, thats all I have been doing! There are a lot of great guys on here to help.
