Please help me spend $1.1 Million Dollars!

Team is post waivers ready to start Monday and I've got a little over $1.1 Million Dollars to play with. I like the team and think I've got some real value players for my park.

My thought was to upgrade the pen a little bit.

Currently, I've got Giusti set to close vs. RH, Tippy closing vs. LH and Tincup as the setup both ways. Fosnow is unassigned so he should get the rest of the innings.

Upgraded relievers are few and far between. My best choices are: Newhouser, Henke, Gossage, Harris, McDowell, Lyle, etc. No big money relievers available.

My thought was to perhaps drop Fosnow and pick up a nickel starter. Roll that cash along with my bank roll and one of the other three guys into a super reliever. I'd love a Konstanty or even a Nelson type right about now.

Hey Coach ! I like the staff starters and the pen should do ok . Could you maybe turn Nipper or Leal into a Cox or a Ray Caldwell ? I've never used Chapman but would try for a better stick there . Same with Luderus . Those injuries scare me . Other than that , looks good .

Playing in Candlestick, you shouldn't need so much depth in your bullpen. Newhouser, Konstanty and Nelson all have had good seasons for me.

Another thought might be to downgrade a couple of the relievers for more cash to upgrade a starter or two into the $5-6 range. Martinez and Giusti likely can handle the load.

May I ask why you are going with Clemens over Brown, Pfeister, Camnitz, or Cicotte? I am guessing it has something to do with your thread you just started about him (oh which I chimed in on), but I would still prefer Brown over Clemens.

Von - Chapman is great, you gotta try him sometime on a smallball type team, I think you'll be pleased with the results. Luderus is highly underrated. (though that was my other consideration for upgrading)

Frank Bailey - I agree that I'm over penned. Newhouser is the only one available, Nelson & Konstanty were my wish list.

Boss - Clemens in a pitchers park is a monster, even better than anyone but Pete IMHO. He has yet to disappoint me. And, he's almost always available ......... Oh wait, he sucks, he's terrible, never mind, disregard my last comment! :wink:

I understand Clemens is a moster in a pitcher's park, but what do the other 3 stadiums look like in your division? And the league in general? Do the other better teams/managers that you might face in the playoffs down the road play in hitting or pitching parks?

It's a pretty neutral league ... My division is another Stick, a Fenway '86 and a Huntington '03 (so one of each).

Rest of league is 2 pitchers parks, 5 neutral parks and 1 hitters park.

So, I'll be playing roughly 105 games in pitchers parks, 18 games in hitters parks and the rest in neutral parks .......

Well it sounds like you have thought it out. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. Good luck and I hope you do not regret going with Brown in the semi's once you get there.

I would go with a relief staff of Martinez as my closer Giusti as my righty setup and Fosnow as lefty setup and Sisk to eat innings on the sidelines unassigned. I would use the money to upgrade the unpredictable Kaat to a potential stud with this team of Pollet. He should win a great many games with your lineup.

I would also never ever ever let Brown be on the waiver wire in any league I was in. Even if it meant playing Marty Marion at SS. You most likely will be meeting Mr Barclay in the playoffs at Wrigley and your biggest stud if he has a better record than you will have to pitch with those big @ss BP homers. Your second most likely playoff opponent is TKL and he is in a bomber park. Both will probably make the playoffs. I do not doubt this team to make the playoffs but the insurance of 3-Finger is worth chopping 2 fingers off for!
