Love for C. Ripken

Love for C. Ripken

Postby nevdully's » Tue Mar 21, 2006 1:44 pm

Looking over my stats, I noticed that while Mr. Ripken is rarely my first choice at SS, he has produced very well whenever I've used him.

In [b:5991771a9d]41 full seasons [/b:5991771a9d]and 2 partial seasons, he posted these numbers. This includes [b:5991771a9d]12 full seasons in either Forbes or Dunn,[/b:5991771a9d] 2 very difficult parks for righthand power hitters....Without my calculator and a lil lazy to do the math he seems to average about [b:5991771a9d]25/100/100 .300 [/b:5991771a9d]

Ripken Jr., C. [b:5991771a9d]27689[/b:5991771a9d] [b:5991771a9d]4152[/b:5991771a9d] 8,321 1777 114 [b:5991771a9d]1104[/b:5991771a9d] [b:5991771a9d]3944[/b:5991771a9d] 2206 1 993 0[b:5991771a9d].301 [/b:5991771a9d] 0[b:5991771a9d].493 [/b:5991771a9d] 0[b:5991771a9d].352 [/b:5991771a9d] 0.845 9.98 112.45

I never used to use Ripken, but then tried him, and since then, I have used him many times in hitters parks. Always solid numbers, around 300 ba, 30-40 hrs, 100+ rbis.....

Using him right now in FW '86 (Barnstromer's). I'm pleased with the results thus far. I will use him again...most definitely.

darn there goes another underappreciated player you could put in the back end of your draft card or pickup in free agency. i enjoy ripken and having the spare cash to use at other positions.

where do you bat ripken though? he does not have good clutch and grounds into a shit load of double plays. i think those numbers are decieving when you think of "team" and "defense". my 2 cents.

Yount, R. 36505 5960 11,383 2265 624 1727 6792 2844 31 1431 0[b:d1cce7c661].312 [/b:d1cce7c661] 0[b:d1cce7c661].550 [/b:d1cce7c661] 0[b:d1cce7c661].362 [/b:d1cce7c661] 0[b:d1cce7c661].912 [/b:d1cce7c661] 8.52 129.18

I'm not suggesting he's as good as Yount but funny thing is the numbers are very similar in my experiences. [b:d1cce7c661].312 [/b:d1cce7c661]to [b:d1cce7c661].301 [/b:d1cce7c661]batting average, [b:d1cce7c661].550 [/b:d1cce7c661]to [b:d1cce7c661].493 [/b:d1cce7c661]slugging%, [b:d1cce7c661].362 [/b:d1cce7c661]to [b:d1cce7c661].352 [/b:d1cce7c661]OBP

Yount has negative clutch also and hits into almost as many DPs.

Yount DPs vs LHP [b:d1cce7c661]26[/b:d1cce7c661]
Ripken DPs vs LHP [b:d1cce7c661]31[/b:d1cce7c661]

Yount DPs vs RHP [b:d1cce7c661]25[/b:d1cce7c661]
Ripken DPs vs RHP [b:d1cce7c661]27[/b:d1cce7c661]

Yount Negative clutch vs RHP 4
Ripken negative clutch vs RHP 4

Yount negative clutch vs LHP 4
Ripken negative clutch vs LHP 7

As you can see vs RHP Ripken is almost exactly the same as Yount when comparing DPs and clutch.

Yount is a 1 and Ripken a 2 defensively, and the best SS in ATG (Yount) (imo) but getting "stuck" with Ripken is not as bad second choice as most people think.....And almost 3 million $ less.

I'd still rather have Ozzie or Oquendo batting 2nd, Banks hitting 5th or 6th, Honus hitting 1st, or even Peckinpaugh hitting 8th. Out of all these options, I think Banks is the best value for SS, especially in a hitters park (in which Yount and Ripken have their value as well). But you do make a very strong case when comparing Yount and Ripken (the only difference being that in e.g. Fenway '67, I've seen Yount hit 50 + doubles and hit above .330--I've never seen this with Ripken). :D

Btw Nev, why don't you sign up for the 100 Mil DH frenzy going on tonight?

I've had Yount hit [b:a4e01b9c2c]50[/b:a4e01b9c2c] or more doubles [b:a4e01b9c2c]9[/b:a4e01b9c2c] times. :)

He's hit [b:a4e01b9c2c].330 [/b:a4e01b9c2c]or more [b:a4e01b9c2c]4[/b:a4e01b9c2c] times. :)

Just not in the same year. :(

I've never used Oquendo, he might have to go on my "to use list"

I've seen the call for the new league but I've got 40 teams going now and can't find the motivation. :( WOW, I haven't put a team together in 5 days (holy crap)
