opinions wanted - which NeL 2b to play in Cath Prep Oval

Postby hackra » Sat Jun 11, 2011 10:17 am

I know there is no perfect answer to this one, but I am debating which 2nd baseman to play on my all Negro league team in Cath Prep Oval.

Tubby Scales
Bill Monroe
HR Johnson

are all in my mind as possible starters

Pop Lloyd
Ray Dandridge
Sammy Hughes

all possible backups

I expect to see 80% RHSP

price point is NOT an issue, and whoever it is will be surrounded by sluggers.

I'd appreciate opinions and rationalle

8-)

Home Run Johnson at 2B as a #2 hitter. I know he hits mostly singles, but he has quite a few BB+HBP and can also back up at SS.

You didnt ask, but I assume you are using Wells at SS. If that is the case, I would stack my lineup with hitters in other spots and go with Sammy Hughes at 2b. Or at least a Dandridge/Serrell platoon. I'd like to have that better D with that NeL team

then I certainly would seek one of those "1" combinations at 2b, especially hitting down in the order

Doc,

I know you love defense, but Tubby Scales has put up some monster years at 2B (sadly not for my teams!) so he's worth a look. I've had better luck with Lloyd than Wells, but I would guess most feel the opposite.
