Ummm...what have i done?

So im a rookie in a 140m league, and i got Maddux and Alexander in the Autodraft, but today I just picked up Ed Walsh off the the free agent pool, on impulse (someone just dropped him), and I traded for Pedro. Now i have the 4 most expensive pitchers in the ATG6 set, now what im worried about is the relief pitching. I sacrificed my bullpen for this, and I taded away Percival(for Don Mossi) and dropped Wetteland (for Gary Lavelle), to get these guys. Is Pedro's S7* something to worry about with a thin bullpen, especially in a 140m league? Both these players werent doing very well on their old teams, will this carry over on to my team? Or was it just bad luck on the opposing owner's side?

I know I went a little crazy today, im in first in my division and i really shouldnt have messed with a good thing, have i done irreparable damage to my team?

no, you're fine with RP. You still have around 7-8M spent on relievers. With those 4 starters (and slow hook an option) you won't need much in the way of relief and Mossi/Harris can probably be enough.

your starting pitchers ROCK and their bad luck for other teams will NOT carry over to yours.

I agree that you have plenty of pen and would say overall that you should expect an extremely succesful rookie season (but do not count on getting Pete and Maddux in the autodraft every time out).

Can't imagine one could go wrong with that starting staff. Just set them all to slow hook, F7 and they should all get over 300 ip's (less for Walsh and Martinez but only because of the 36 games they missed for your team).

Set Mossi as set up, then closer and put him as F7 as well. That should limit the innings the rest of your bullpen pitches. Also on the team settings, set relief use as conservative.

The team would benefit from one middle man type, because there will be a ton of runs scored at 140M. Harris is fine for your park but will get slaughtered on the road in the inevitable plethora of bomber stadiums that most leagues feature at the higher caps. Still, I wouldn't rush to make any changes here.

You do have a potentially serious problem though. You have no reserve outfielders. Ricky is a 15-game injury risk. I'd try and downgrade Connors for Terry (assuming you have a 5, 10 20 drop penalty for your league (and also assuming that Terry is available). Then I would grab a good reserve utility outfielder, Hartzell or Meyer come readily to mind.
Carew could then dh and Terry play 1B. Or try and get Chance instead of Connors and then upgrade Power and still get the reserve outfielder.

On a brief aside, whoever dropped Walsh is either utterly misguided or perhaps trying to screw up the competitive balance of the league. I assume this was a private league composed of friends who don't have much experience with ATG in which case one could discount the second possibility?

Petrosian's points are good. You should follow all of those. I might even set up many of the relief roles and put Mossi in all of them (setup on, not mop up)...

and in a 140M league, you should have a backup OF that can give you games when needed and not drop off too much.

Thanks so much for the reassurance guys, means a lot that veterans like yourselves agree. Im playing in one of those "managers with a rating under x" leagues, so im not playing with the best people(before the season started i got 11m dimaggio for 10.4m mays straight up)

i think the reason he dropped walsh was beacuse he was 1-6 with a 6.00 era, probably the reason i got pedro for cheap too, he was 2-6 with a 6.45 era

terry, sadly is on another team, but chance looks really good for the price, i might drop connors for him, then use all that extra money to upgrade relief pitching a little and get that reserve outfielder

Careful not to get carried away reshaping team with the associated cap hits. How critical it is to have a 4th OFer depends on whether it is a DH league and how injury prone your top 3 are. If they are not injury prone and this is a DH league I would not downgrade anywhere just to pick up a 4th OFer to sit the bench.

My motto for $140 cap and below is keep as much money on the field as possible. Money on the bench is lost productivity.
