Which Hornsby?

Which Hornsby?

Postby PotKettleBlack » Mon Oct 31, 2011 3:25 pm

Playing a 20's theme team, 140M.

Have exclusive rights to all three iterations of Hornsby.

Initially interested in using the new Hornsby (24) but his great vs. R (best of all iterations) is mitigated by his vs L (Lowest BA/SLG vs L, though highest OBP).

Hornsby 22 basically takes a portion from the Vs R and puts it to Vs L. Which helps balance the Gehrig issue.

Any thoughts?

Since this is a theme league you're in, it might depend on how much lefty pitching you'll be facing. If you're under 30%, stay with '24. If you're 30%, maybe 35%, you would want '22.

Offense/Defense on a Theme Team (was Which Hornsby)

Postby PotKettleBlack » Tue Nov 01, 2011 11:42 am

Okay, that was a good approach. Thanks. Top Hornsby it is.

Mind if I go with another one.

Playing my 20's theme team. Home park is Ebbets 20.
Division contains: Washington (Small), Ameriquest (feels like Home), and Cath Prep Oval (Where Boppers like to Bop).

I would link team but, pre-waivers, and things are hinky, so let's discuss generally.

Outfield, as currently constructed is Ruth 21, Ott 29, Simmons 29.
No DH on the roster.
Have a couple of options.
1- Make Ruth the DH and add Waner 27. Outfield would be Simmons in Left, Ott in Center and Waner in Right (1e3 -1, 2e8 - 2, 1e5 -3).
2- Keep Ruth in Left, add Goslin as the DH.

140 is cap.

Option one provides a pretty good D, especially since the one great CF in my pool is playing for the teen team... drop off is to Roush if I want a 1 range.

Option two provides more offense, particularly vs R, but about 50 points of total slug against lefties.

Thoughts?

I think you should keep Ruth at pitcher. Of course, I am the Ameriquest team in your division, so take my advice with a large grain of salt. :P

Yeah, there is that. Which would solve the dilemma. Keep Ruth pitching (can't do with the rules of the league), field Waner in right and DH Goslin.

There's also the unpalatable option of trading Gehrig for Vance, playing Ruth at first, Waner in right and Goslin DH, but I think I'd rather have Gehrig.

I don't know what your pitching will look like, but I'd say keep some options open. With those ballparks in your division, everyone will hit plenty. FWIW, I really like the '26 Goslin. Yes, he's a three in the OF, but I use him anyway. Since you've got an angle to DH him, do it. Depending on who else you got for Leadoff, consider him in that spot.

Here's the team post waivers.

Prothro plays 3rd vs LHP. Frisch versus RHP and when Prothro is injured.

Tweaking as we speak.
