[quote:aebea5a2e7="Valen"]Just curious. Is the concern about this trade partly tied to occurring in a no cap live league? [/quote:aebea5a2e7]

Yes, its a thread about trades in LIVE drafts. And it makes all the
difference.

I thought Salt made it clear in the initial post that it was a LIVE draft
question. And he hinted that you weren't paying attention to this in
a later post.

Also, you took my last post personally, ... but when I wrote it I wasn't
even thinking of you.... I was actually addressing people playing
LIVE leagues regularly. To discuss the impact of a preseason
"dumping trade," its impact and the threshold a trade has to reach
to be categoriezed as such, it would seem a prequisite to actually aknowledge the existence of such a trade.

As you can probably tell, I subscribe to the philosophy "the best trades
are the ones you don't make." Its true in baseball, its true in strat. So
I think SOM is doing well on that point.

[quote:c530d9a6b8="Valen"]Suppose the guy getting Ruth used him exclusively as a pitcher. Would this change your mind about this trade? [/quote:c530d9a6b8]

Thats just is never going to happen.

Ruth will always go in the top 5 picks as a hitter.

Ruth the pitcher would never go before Maddux, and Maddux
would never go before Ruth the hitter.

So how does the Beer commercial go... there is no such thing
as a stupid question.... insert stupid question ... I stand corrected.

Using Ruth the pitcher in a live draft league is more like being a whole happy meal short of a happy meal.

For the record I was clear on the original post and I have been clear on that all along. I was just curious if different parameters would make a difference. Please read my posts before flaming me about them.

V-
(Im trying to put this as plainly as possible, as I dont think anymore context is needed, and no, you dont have to agree, but its like Aristophanes said, there is value in showing a man who sees something yellow when everyone else recognizes it as green)

Ill translate to the 200 level.
Assuming you valued Ruth enough for him to be the number ONE player on your draft card- and also assume you can put him in ANY stadium you want.
Think about that- You can put RUTH anywhere you want him.

You would trade him for Mac and Cedeno, and throw in Cash just to make it a bit more lop sided?
I dont care if your whole team is right handed, hell that makes then even more valuable- which is exactly what the manager who traded for them recognized, since he immediately switched parks from Minute to Bennett.

I will draft Mac and Cedeno somewhere down my draft card since neither one would ever go on the top and would happily trade them for your number one.

Sure no problem. I'll put Bowa at the top of my next draft card.
Be careful what you commit to.

HEH,
Well, again, as Nev said, assuming the context is that you dont want to lose 100+ games- then it would be a safe bet. 8-)
