680 is the correct number. I discovered this back in ATGI, when I was testing an excel program I had written to project expected results for a hitter over a season in any park. I decided I wanted to compare these projected results to actuals, so I put together actual stats for a number of hitters. As I was doing that I realized that R. Yount played in 162 games for each of 20 seasons I was using, yet he had an injury number. From here I realized W. Mays had the same issue.

I also knew that T. Cobb had been injured for 3 games for me, so I began working from there. In ATGI Enos Slaughter had 679 PA's and could go down for 3 game injuries, everyone over that amount was only injured for rest of game. At that time I then posted my results to confirm that no one else had contradicting data, and at that time 680 PA's was discovered to be the magic number.

I think Riggo and several others probably knew this to be true long before I did, but through that public dialog several years back 680 PA's was confirmed to be the number.

I just checked my use of Pesky, and he has always played 162 games on the seasons I have used him.

Pesky never hurt in the many times I've used him or been in league with someone using him, Ruth however is a totally different story.........seen him injured for a game or three at the same time

I reviewed about 50 of my old teams and Pesky was on about 8 of them (when was I going to learn that Fernandez stunk! :shock: ) Anyway my memory (as usual), appears to have been faulty and there were no instances I could find where he had been hurt. The games 'missed' were exactly as Nev had said I had rested him before the playoffs and he had come in as a pinch-hitter that is why he has several years for me with 158 games.

So, to be clear, I believe I am totally wrong, no surprise there and your advice is correct that Pesky can't be injured.

There are only about 6 players on sschu's list that I have not used. I have never had any of them miss a whole game.

I have never dug around enough, but the one thing I would like to research is if any of the 680 AB guys ever miss any time due to injury. I can't recall any, but I would like to confirm it for sure.
