Can we still curse Hal?

Can we still curse Hal?

On small or large changes to the "next generation" of the SOM on-line
community.

"Next generation" is in reference to how the collection of on-line strat
managers will re-emerge when the corporate/web side of the merger
is complete.[/size:d4d339ffe5]

Original Title: [i:d4d339ffe5]Will we all be considered "Newbies" when SOM/strat merge? [/i:d4d339ffe5] Based on Macnole's comment, I renamed the thread
and posted a long, rambling explanation with a few emotional bits
thrown in.

Uneditted (and somewhat confusing) original post:

[quote:d4d339ffe5]It seems like its a semi-rhetorical question, as we can't
really know until it happens.

But we have to sign up at strat to continue playing on-line
strat, so for those of us who only SOM, its like starting over,
isn't it?[/quote:d4d339ffe5]

So I re-expressed myself on another post.

I don't follow the question. Was this in the announcement and I missed it?

You mean the current TSN SOM-Online vs SOM Game Co?

I thought it was a matter of accounts not being auto transferred. Like you said, whatever is promised, it will be a believe-it-when-I-see-it situation.

When you go to the strat o matic site you have to create a user name. I intend to change mine from N Texas Widowmakers to something else. If I do that how would my credits follow me ? I also wondered about manager ratings too.

Yes, I see where this is really confusing. And I am talking about
the TSN - SOM merger. But not on company level, more on
the community level.

I was trying to anticipate a few things, as they might play out
when the sites merge. And in the thread about going all-in on
the CD-rom (http://forums.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=626537&start=25,
scroll to PJ Axelsson's final psot) there was a post the SOM users comments
towards, well, users not on the SOM site. That would be us. Maybe I
am reading to much into it.

But SOM is fairly tolerant of us and things we like to muse and discuss,
a lot of that could change:

(1) How will the existing subscribers view us (I.e., are we just a bunch
or Newbies")
(2) If a discussion about the game comes up (one of the favorite
topics on these threads), will the owner of the SOM just tell us its off-limts?
(3) Can we still curse at "Hal" ?

and there might be smaller continuiuty issues, for instance, if
were allowed different ids (I would make a shorter one for myself, actually), can our casual friends still recognize us?

I could go on. And I do understand we will find out the details in time.
And there is a real possibility some of the current community might
not like the new location. Not saying it will happen, but it could happen.
But if it does happen, there are old SOM friends we might not get to
say good-bye to.

I am just reminded of the thread Petro once started, "Let me introduce
myself," where about 50+ posted a short bio (maybe 100+). Totally
optional, no rules on what to say. It was a classy, socially aware
moment on these threads.

Anyway there are two opportunties here for us to view the community
for what it has been and what it will be. Kind of a "going away" party
opporutinty and a "welcoming party" opportunity. Just two opportunities
for us to be socially aware that we have not just been players to
online strat, but also a community. And also a recognition of the next
generation of the community may not include some of the friends,
colleagues, sparring partners that we have come to know.

So back to your question about what I meant -- well, yeah, I totally
messed up my original description.

...in that case Im gonna be Salty Macnole

But- I think many here would like to know more of the parameters of the move.
Do we have a definite time frame? Think a few of the details of what will be happening need to come out soon- including the things you are speculating on.

Of course, you can still curse HAL. Then again, you can walk under ladders, shatter mirrors on a whim, and vote Republican. Just don't be surprised when there are consequences!

Why does baseball have to be ruined by political jabs? As if republicans historically have the market cornered on expanding the debt, entering into new wars, and general buffoonery associated with special treatment of a rock star lifestyle at taxpayer expense.

Rock the vote dude.
