ATG a hitters game? What am I missing?

Thanks for the kudos, guys.

I have won a title in Fenway '67 :D , (actually, I think I only have repeat titles in two parks, my title teams are pretty spread out, I'd have to go back and check) but I prefer the smallball type teams, cause that's the way I like Baseball. I'm just a traditional kind of guy, I nearly cried when they put lights in at Wrigley (and when they started selling bleacher seats in ADVANCE, for that matter  ) and I despise the DH. I love it when my team has 240 2Bs and 60 HRs and when I have the best ERA; and a 1-0 game is more exciting to me than a 14-13 slugfest.

I agree with Grindi as well, and my favorite parks to play in are Neutral/pitching parks like Bennet, Busch, Comiskey, westside, etc.

Like it's been said, there are many ways to build a winning team, I think many owners just have a comfort zone or prefer a certain style of play.

In any case, the main reason I love playing this silly game is the people on this board, and threads like this. Such a refreshing change from the ignorant teenie banter you find on most fantasy sites. :D

Don't remind me Rich! Actually, DO remind me! Those were the days...

At one point, dating back from ATGI, I won 13 straight Finals appearances. Finally lost in my fourth appearance in ATGII then won four more for a nice stretch of 17-1. I then proceeded to lose 5 straight before I won another. I'm now at 14-15 in Finals for ATGII and 24-17 overall.

What goes around comes around, I guess. :D

[quote:06eba410e1]Bottom line: I think the game favors those who can best assess value. Then, next in importance I suspect, is maximizing the use of the value you get in the draft, for example choosing appropriate ballparks and lineups etc. Then drafting strategies. Next comes exploiting opponents weaknesses. Ultimately though in the course of a given season, luck predominates. [/quote:06eba410e1]

I agree whole heartedly with this...luck is the determining factor. There are many very good managers in SOM....and how many of you have built the EXACT same team in seperate leagues, just to watch one flounder while the other prospers? Yes, there will be subtle differences in the opposition, but for the most part, it comes down to LUCK...who wins the one run games, who hits their card more often....

Luck is a much overlooked and underrated component to winning in SOM....
