Pitchers in Dunn - who's the best?

Let's say for this argument that I have roughly 22 million to spend on a four-man staff at Dunn.

Would you spend more than one-third of that budget on, say, koosman or Ojeda - and then divvy the remaining 13 mil on guys like Carlton, Mogridge, Key, McGregor, Cuellar, McNally or Kaat?

And would you go with an all-lefty staff?

Or would you want to include a high-end RHP like a Lemon or Maddox, or middle-tier like Derringer or Drysdale or Coveleski?

I have had good luck with guys like Holtzman, Lemon, McNally. And I think I was lucky with Carlton. But I have been disappointed with guys like Tommy John and Mogridge....

Thoughts from the experts on this?

My experience with those pitchers in Dunn is similar. But don't short the defense behind them. Remember, you are playing smallball.

Two types of staff's I use in Dunn.

Ideal:
Clemens or Koufax
Seaver
Lolich
Kaat

2nd Choice
Key
Lolich
Kaat
Merritt
Hunter
Frock type

I only use Mogridge in Baker type parks. McGregor, Gura are OK if you can't get the better guys. Carlton is shaky for Dunn as lefties feast off him. But if a team has lots of righties...

Dunn is a hitters park for the home team, not small ball. But it's clearly not a bomber type hitters park. Dunn well, it is a pitchers park for your opponents. :wink:

Well, my plan is to have a 1 at 2b, ss, 3b, c, cf, rf
My budget plan is $47 mil on offense, $22 on SP, $11 on RP. Normally I spend about $7-8 on RP, so I am splurging. But, I also learned from earlier Dunn experiences that I need to put a couple extra bucks in the pen.

Funny thing with your suggestions Petrosian, though I have looked at Kaat and Lolich and am interested in them, I shy away because of the 6 inning thing. I would have one on the staff, but not both.

But, it does seem like I should have at least one righty in the 4 SP. So, should it be the "ace" - $7-9mil or a mid-tier $4-6?

I am intrigued by Derringer, according to Adrian's site, he's a .210/.176 obpa at Dunn. But the .210 is better than guys like Osteen, Coveleski, Morgridge, yet worse then a Key, McGregor or Kaat. So it could work well.

Ojeda is one of my favorite pitchers to get for Dunn.

If you want to go really cheap, I've gotten decent sesons out of Forsch and or Hallahan as a fifth starter or even in middle relief.

I also like Kerr in Dunn...

6 innings is fine. They'll get between 230-270 ip. Any rightie you select should give up his ballpark hr's against righties only. That limits the field and reduces the chance for a bad pick.
