Willie Wilson, Rickie Henderson and Sam Rice the weak arms for a team as heavily loaded for pitching as yours and then Bobby Avila at 2b  is hurting your team, everyone is getting an extra base. you have 2 million in unspent funds and a wasted million on a backup catcher. On top of that your hitters for the most part are biased against lefties, whom you are facing 33% of the time. On top of that you are also having bad luck.

The first move I would make is to replace Jim Rice as your DH with Patsy Dougherty, he will hit at least and offset your bias against LH pitching.

Of course none of those points seem to be impacting Pfeister.

Chalk it up to bad luck, mostly. No reason to have Harris on this team, none of your starters can get hurt for more than three games so none will ever miss a turn in the rotation.

I'd drop Jim Rice also and pick up a second baseman who can field and make Avila my dh. Sewell makes a fine cheap dh as well. McNeely ain't bad either.

I've never used Wilson but the arms aren't so bad. Otherwise the OF D is fine. On any throws to 3b from rf the best they have going is 1-18, with less than two out. And how many runners are 1-17? Not that many. The average for ATG teams is probably around 13. So throws to third from rf probably average about 1-14, from Lf 1-12 given Hendersons +1 arm. Also lot of times teams with less than great arms throw out the most runners. Check out the defensive stat page for your teams. So its nonsense to claim that "everyone is getting a free base."

Thanks Petrosian. I really like the idea of moving Avila to DH and will follow up on that.

McNeely? How in the world have I played as long as I have and missed a .330 hitter for just over 2 mil? Please tell me they slipped him in recently and he has not been out there this whole time.

Glad to see Alexander getting bombed. I was starting to think his card was rigged to win all the time!

In considering the options suggested above I stumbleed across a possibility. If I move Wilson to left and use Henderson at DH and pick up a defensive second baseman dropping Avila and downgrade Boyer to Gardner or Pendleton I end up with enough money to pick up Speaker.

Would you make these changes? And if you would does Speaker bat third or does he go higher with Henderson dropping down to middle of lineup since he is leading team in HR?

Yes I would make those changes your team would be better for it picking up in overall defense and a lefty bat. I would use Speaker 3rd at Home and Henderson 3rd in HR parks.

By the way Pfeisters ERA has now surpassed 3.0
