Fixing the mistake on Eddie Collin's price (poll closed)

Postby bernieh » Fri Aug 04, 2006 9:23 am

[b:30bc89ae8c]EDIT: POLL CLOSED[/b:30bc89ae8c] - This change will happen today, Friday, at 6pm ET.

I overlooked the possibility of someone picking Collins up [i:30bc89ae8c]in advance[/i:30bc89ae8c] of 6pm; I should've thought of that but didn't. Sorry if these aren't the ideal circumstances but it's the smoothest way, technically, of doing it at this point. Thanks for all of your input.

-- Original Post --
I've been alerted by an individual who helped set the player prices that there was a significant mistake made on Eddie Collins' price.

As of the time of this post, Collins is listed at [b:30bc89ae8c]$9.15M[/b:30bc89ae8c], when the price he should be at is [b:30bc89ae8c]$7.55M[/b:30bc89ae8c].

I would like to correct this mistake today, but the easiest way to do so would cause some (in my opinion) minor side effects. I'd like to conduct a poll to gather your opinions and if enough of you agree, the following will happen at [b:30bc89ae8c]6pm ET today, Friday, August 4.[/b:30bc89ae8c]

- Eddie Collins' price will be changed to $7.55M on all draft lists, teams that have listed him on their draft cards, teams that have already drafted him, and free agent pools in leagues that have already drafted.
- Teams that haven't drafted yet but have listed him on their draft card and teams that already own him in a league will have the difference, $1.60M, credited to their team's cash account.
- If he wasn't drafted in a league, it will be open season (first come, first served) on him at his new price in leagues that have already cleared waivers.

[i:30bc89ae8c]In addition[/i:30bc89ae8c], another, more minor mistake will be corrected at the same time: [b:30bc89ae8c]Gary Bell[/b:30bc89ae8c] (BOS '67) will have a 4-day asterisk added to his card (he had it in ATG II and it was left off accidentally in ATG III).

Final note: We cannot accept requests to change any other players' prices that are based on opinion.

Sorry for the error everyone! It's your call how I should correct it.

Thanks,
Bernie

Nice job ctaching the error now, at least no leagues have started. I didn't think he was worth over 9 mill. anyway.

Preacher Roe

There was one other change I noticed and wasn't certain about:
Preacher Roe used to be SP/RP and now he is only SP. Same card...
I realized you were changing (normalizing) error ratings, but I wasn't expecting changes in pitching.

I just noticed that he was just picked up in one of my leagues this morning...probably in anticipation of the price change. :x

Bernie,

There were a few other things I noticed, but this issue sticks out the most to me:

If you decided to give Nolan Ryan a * rating at 178 IP, why do these pitchers with 200+ IP
[b:9a6fdeddd1]NOT[/b:9a6fdeddd1] have one:

Red Ames (who seems to have lost his in the transition)
Billy Pierce
Ed Reulbach
Paul Dean
Chief Bender
Orval Overall
Art Fowler
Carl Lundgen
Dickie Kerr
Curt Simmons
Herb Pennock

At the very least, I'd to hear the reasoning for giving Nolan one and not these guys.

Tim

***I would also have to think that Wagner isn't priced right either!!!!!!!

I also noticed that Red Ames lost his * rating. It seems to me that should be fixed.

And, I noticed the outrageous price for Honus Wagner. If you're going to adjust Eddie's price, you ought to do the same for Honus. He is unuseable, otherwise.

My opinion is, it's unfair to change the price now in any league that has started.

Why not change the price right now from this time forward, for any league that starts from tonight onward.

My drafting strategy (and FA pickups) would have been very different had I known Collins' price would be changing.

My two cents.

As long as your looking for corrections check out Urban Shocker's card. He's listed as a 4R. You might want to rethink that.
