Valentine or Gwynn? Some things to consider...

I'm playing in Busch 87 (pitching team). Due to the way the draft and frenzy went, I only have 3 LH bats out of 9 (DH league). I'm worried about the mix. My division includes a Dunn. Division is about 40 LH SP, although 2 or 3 of the RH starters are stronger vs LH bats. With what's on the FA wire, I can only pick up a LH bat for RF, where I currently have Valentine slated to play. Gwynn is an on base machine, bats from the left side and is only a 3 game injury risk. He's a free agent. But...I hate to give up Valentine. He always hits a ton for me, and his -5 arm goes well with Meusel in RF and D. Dimaggio in CF. How important is the lefty/righty mix? Parks in my division are Murphy, Dunn and West Side. Here is my team link:

Tough call. I hate Gwynn for the $$. Bad arm, high double plays, no real power. He is weaker to LHP as well, so the lefties he will face from the Dunn team will hurt him both in Dunn and at home. At the same time, you could really use another LH bat for balance. And I hate 15 game injuries. My gut is stick with Valentine, he always hits for me. You have a few days, maybe a better option than Gwynn will pop up on the wire.

I should have mentioned that Keller is out there, also. He would play LF while Meusel moved to RF. Another 15 injury risk, but a good LH bat for sure. Would you dump Valentine for Keller?

Valentine is one of the great values in the game IMHO. He has the HIGHEST SLG on his card against LHs of any ATG II player. His OBP against RHs is .436, he runs, fields and throws. His downsides are injury risk and OBP against LHs, he is an ideal right fielder. With all those LHs, keep him.

What I meant to say is my division is about 40 PER CENT LH starters, not 40, TOTAL. :)

Shhh, Keller is one of the best values in the game.

Don't tell anyone.

I don't know who your lead off hitters are at the moment, but if you don't have high OBP there, I would drop Muesel for Keller. E. Valentine should stay on your roster, especially if Gwynn or Muesel is the alternative. E. Valentine is a great value in almost any park. Gwynn on the other hand is I think one of the worst valued RF'ers and probably barely makes the grade in a pitchers park.

As it stands at the moment, I would lead off with Devore vs RHs and either Devore or D. Dimaggio vs LHs. I really like Keller as another LH bat, but I hate giving up my two corner -5 arms (Meusel and Valentine). Aggh!
