New Yankee '56 team for Rookie

This is my second Y56 attempt. What can I improve upon?

I think my pitching is adequate at best. Still have some money to spend. Any ideas for a cheapy 4th starter (under 2M?). I am platooning Mincher/Roeniecke @ 1b. MIcher appears to fit my home park, Roenicke doesn't appear as suited for the home park-any replacement ideas? I was think Ray Knight but I don;t have enough $$. my projected lineup is Robinson 3b, Buford lf, Ruth rf, Snider cf, Yount ss, Mincher/Roeniecke 6th, Parish-c, Bishop 2b.

I know my lineup is lacking depth but I figure at least I have strong D up the middle.

This is my eight team (4th ATG) and I'd like to think I'm getting better as I hover right around .500. Help me get this team into the playoffs (tired of paying $24 dollars a pop to get my fix of strat!

Carney Lansford would platoon nicely with Mincher.

Brusstar and Garman will get in way too many games and get pounded. Lyle might get pounded too.

Vuck is gonna get hit hard too on occasion.

With the money I have left, what are some other options? Vuck will give up some hits, but I can;t think of any other right now. Garman or Brustar I'll probably drop for a spot starter and the other I'll set for not before 9th/mop-up

Here's an idea for a platoon.

Mincher is at 1st, JRob and Buford will play full time, but could be used as part of a platoon, with Minchers platoon mate being a LF or 3b.

Let me use Devlin at 3b as an example

Buford LF

Vs LHP
JRob 1b
Devlin 3b
Buford LF



You could also use Alou or Clines in LF, and move Buford to 3b and JRob to 1b against LHP.

I like Mincher in a HR park platoon.

It don't matter how you try to set 'em, HAL will continue to use them against your wishes and they're gonna get pounded occasionally.

Other options: Ojeda, Koosman, Blue, Kaat, Cuellar, McNally, Holtzman.

Is anything wrong with Roenicke @ 1b as part of a platoon? The other guys mentioned as alternatives (Lansford, Devlin) have no pop and this spot would be for the 6 hole in my lineup. I'm gonna look to drop Vuck. I'll probably go with with 3* starters and two non* SP's and spot them (L/R). Yeah, I know about mixing non* with *, but there is nothing out there with a * that's worth having

Nothing is "wrong" with Roenicke per se, but you are paying for his BP HR's and your not going to get them in Yankee '56, so you may as well have a high OBP guy who hits singles instead (such as Lansford). Not sure what your lineup is like, but Lansford could even lead off vs. LHP's.

It's mostly a hitters league, only 2 extreme pitchers park.

Just starting to play a few teams in Yankee 56 and learned a few things at least that work for me.

Have 4 LH power hitters, preferably those that have those 8 BP HRs vs both righties and lefties: the Babe Ruth, Boog Powell, Duke Snider types. unbalance LH hitters such as Yaz, Doby, McCovey etc. suffer power losss when facing lefties.

You need to have at least 3 very high OBP RH hitters, preferably those that particularly kill lefties. Cleon Jones is just about the personification of the perfect #2 hitter in that 56 park. Others that come to mind are Honus Wagner and that guy in RF with the rifle who won the 53 batting title.

And, at least one RH lefty killling power hitter such as Ellis Valentine, Andre Dawson, Gary Carter, etc. Valentine is a particular favorite with that -5 arm which stops the fast teams.

Pitching wise, the rule is simple--avoid pitchers that give up BP HRs to LH hitters.

And you have to have at least one bargain LH power hittting guy on your team, a M. May, Mincher, B. Oglivie type.
