Live Draft Trivia #1

Live Draft Trivia #1

Postby Proverbial Psalms » Tue Jul 26, 2011 3:15 pm

First off... compliments go out to AeroDave, River Field View (and others) who have been pulled together Live Draft data (in AeroDave's thread)... I love analytics and am glad others do too.

Earlier today I passed along to AeroDave some of the Live Draft info I had gathered... assume it will take a while for him to incorporate that new information into his data. Meanwhile, I figured it was time to dust off some of the old "stats-extraction" tools from the past to put together Live Draft stats, analytics, comparisons, etc.

I pulled together a few files, and have some interesting stuff coming together (for me, at least and we all know what a geeky soul I am).

So, now it's timTime for a little "Live Draft Trivia"... :P

Question to follow in a few minutes...

And sorry Salt, I am pretty sure the answer to the third question
not yet asked is Nev.

Many have opinion, many have debated. but now, the data is in.

THE QUESTION...
In ATG6 Live drafts, what team draft position (1 thru 12) has achieved the top W-L percentage?

Is it the team that has the coveted, frequently dreaded #1 pick? or perhaps at the other corner say #11-12? How have the teams with mid-picks (6-7) fared?

What do y'all think? And why?

Very witty reply, but not correct reasoning nor likely the correct answer

Salt... Here is how many times you drafted in each spot...

Pick 1... 6 times
Pick 2... 8 times
Pick 3... 3 times
Pick 4... 3 times
Pick 5... 7 times
Pick 6... 4 times
Pick 7... 4 times
Pick 8... 3 times
Pick 9... 2 times
Pick 10... 5 times
Pick 11... 5 times
Pick 12... 3 times

Your (Saltman) record is when you pick 9th... A .546 win pct which is much better than other draft positions for you... Your worst is 12th pick where your win percentage is a paltry .467

In ATG4, the best spots were 7-12, because I did the Geekish math
and in 12-15-23 leagues or however many I participated, only Moriarity
got a ring from the top 6 spots, even if the regular season W-L totals
were pretty close.

In ATG5 it was much better balanced.

And in ATG6, as long you don't draft someone like Cy Young first
overall -- all about as good. But if someone does the draft Cy Young
first overall, the best positions to be in is 2-6.

Nev wouldn't draft Cy Young first overall, but if he did, after Nev
would be the correct answer. So Adrian is right.

From about 14 finished leagues (hey, I guess I am a geek),
I have this table from just my leagues:

[quote:ef489035e1]Draft Pos: 1 W-L: 78.2-83.8
Draft Pos: 2 W-L: 81.2-80.8
Draft Pos: 3 W-L: 83.7-78.3
Draft Pos: 4 W-L: 81-81
Draft Pos: 5 W-L: 80.9-81.1
Draft Pos: 6 W-L: 82.4-79.6
Draft Pos: 7 W-L: 80-82
Draft Pos: 8 W-L: 80.8-81.2
Draft Pos: 9 W-L: 81.2-80.8
Draft Pos: 10 W-L: 79-83
Draft Pos: 11 W-L: 79.9-82.1
Draft Pos: 12 W-L: 83.7-78.3[/quote:ef489035e1]

Not enough of a difference to really covet one position over another.
