Help with first Forbes 57' Team please

Postby ShakeyBoomer » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:54 pm

OK, as I start to venture more and more into ATG6, here is my first attempt at a Forbes 57 Team. My draft did not go well. I have the 4th waiver pick. I have a complete bandbox division with a Great American 05 and 2 Polo Grounds 41. As of now pre-waivers, I am facing 4/14 LH starters in my division. All thoughts on how to improve this mess are welcome. Thanks...

Sell Sell Sell!!! Everything must go!!! Except for Cobb and maybe Boggs (Lindstrom is preferred).....use the 1912 version of Cobb, it's an upgrade for less money.

I agree as far as your hitting goes.

Oak - thanks for the reply. How is Cobb 12 an upgrade when he has less than 600 PA's and less XB power than the 11 version? In addition, aren't Wheat and Hernandez just fine for Forbes?

I'd be tempted to consider Rickey's '83 card depending on what else is available and how much money you have. Looks like Waner (RF) and Heilman are available though. Boggs is good there though I'd rather have Lindstrom too, but I prefer Cobb '11 for CF. Hernandez is fine but I like Terry better, and might even try for some pure HR power at 1B. Don't care for Wheat.

Anyone have a clue as to what I should do at 2b if I don't keep Biggio? Gehringer seems to be the only option on the FA pool...

Looks like Stanky is available. I'd jump on that at 2B, and if not him, Evers over Biggio.

Wallace and Fernandez are economical options at SS.

Emart, please excuse my ignorance but hypothetically aren't you supposed to select players for Forbes with: (a) speed; (b) doubles and triples; (c) lots of OBP (preferably via hits rather then walks)?

Isn't Biggio better than Stanky (or Evers) in that regard despite the BPHR's for Biggio?

In addition, the other 3 parks in my division are ALL band boxes...

Just my opinion, but I think Stanky's new card @ 6.08 is a bargain in that park. Doesn't have the 1 rating but huge OB, good speed, 600 PA.

Regarding your question, you're not ignorant at all, and yes, a small ball team is what (I think) you should be building. I think OB and hit points are a primary consideration, and if you can get a lot of triples in your XBH that's great. I also like to use a couple of 25-35 HR guys at 4/5 in the order, but that's just a personal preference.
