This is a first for me - how common has this been for others? Easier in an 80M format than higher caps I am sure. I designed this team around a "big three" SP concept, going with a lot of platoons.

Got reasonable production from the platoons. Shout outs to Shano Collins (great numbers for 1.21M), Gates Brown (though I expected even more given his crazy card vs. RHP), and Earle Combs (.345; 23 3B). Kuntz, Prothro and Weintraub solid too. My boyhood idol Tony O's rookie card disappointed slightly. He was very strong initially, but dropped off a lot in the second half. Mule Suttles was steady but unspectacular in terms of BA/OBP, and didn't crack .900 for OPS, but had a lot of key RBI for a team that didn't score a ton of runs.

The team has three games left and holds the head to head tie breaker over the 2nd place WC team. So 2/3 in the last series would be an automatic WC clinch. Hopefully Maddux and Pete can get that done. Zahn is pitching too.

It's been a fun team either way.

Wow awesome team. Congrats, that's a heck of a feat. I think you may have inspired me to try a big-3.

Thanks! I swept the final series and tied for the division lead with 90 wins, but am the wild card on losing the tiebreaker.

Now the big 3 look pretty imposing in a 7 game series (I only have to pitch starter #4 once).

But anything can happen in the playoffs!

I was especially happy to see Maddux get 21 wins, as he had a horrendous start to the season. While Pete and TF Brown were both cruising at about 12-4 (they mirrored each other all season), Maddux was 5-9 or so. But he is still probably the best of the three and will start game 1.

Good luck - hope your SP studs have better luck than mine in the playoffs. On my 105 win team, Pedro was 33-5 with a 2.27 ERA. In the semis, he went 0-2 with a 12 ERA against the second worst offensive club in the league. Ahhhh, the Strat life.

The good new for this team is that Maddux and Pete took care of business in games 1 and 2 of the semis with 3-1 and 5-2 wins, respectively. The BAD news (and it's bad) is injuries decimated the team in games 1 and 2:

Injury Report

Your Current Injuries
Duncan, Frank, through Semi-Finals Game 4
Wine, Bobby, through Semi-Finals Game 3
Kasko, Eddie, through Semi-Finals Game 3
Lopata, Stan, through Finals Game 7
Brown, Gates, through Finals Game 1

Duncan is my primary starting CA in the playoffs - against a strong running team in the semis. He dropped first. Then his platoon mate Lopata went down for 15 games (ending his season). Thank goodness I carried 3 catchers on this team! So it will be a Buck Martinez series for a couple days here until Duncan gets back.

Then Gates Brown pulled a groin for the rest of the semis (thru finals game 1), and my starting SS and 3B (Wine and Kasko) both went down through game 3 of the semis. Sheesh!

This is the harshest treatment yet HAL had given me in the playoffs for injuries. Now I have to hold my breath whenever Buck bats

What happens when you run out of players? Are injuries curtailed somehow?

I am thankful for the 2 game lead, but wow.....

Isn't that an argument for only carrying two catchers? Duncan goes down, making Lopata a man of steel for the duration of the injury. With three catchers, the first two are vulnerable and you're stuck with Buck.

Or has the two catcher injury theory been disproven?

In any event -- cool team (it's inspired me to try Collins) and good luck the rest of the way.

As I understand when catcher 1 gets injured catcher 2 becomes bulletproof for the next game. But it is possible for him to get injured that same game. That is based on memory of what I have read on boards.

Indeed that is an argument against carrying 3! Lopata was my DH agaisnt LHP so I just happened to have three at first. I should have dropped Buck, as he was not pulling his weight against lefties even at his 7L.

But still, 5 starters injured in first 2 games? REALLY???

Thanks, Tom, this team was a lot of fun. After perpetually seeking the proper power hitting vs. pitching balances, I am enjoying trying some new theme teams (akin to finally stopping dragging my knuckles on the ground).

I just started my first ATG speed team in Palace of the Fans. Cobb stole 7 in the first series last eve and I won 2/3. The stolen bases are exciting to see if that's what you are after. 11SB and only 2CS so far...

Well, I have now ridden the injury train from a 2-0 and 3-1 semis lead to a 3-3 tie. Maddux and Pete missed their chance to wrap it up. Mule Suttles has had what seems like 10 chances to win the seriesand produced nothing timely. He is hitting in the .260 range but his timing is terrible!

Now it is all in the able three fingers of Mordecai Brown.
