More and more players are playing small ball and I think it's a good thing. I have noticed that there are NO $10.00m+ pitchers on waivers in any league I am playing. I think I still prefer playing nuetral teams in nuetral parks but I am getting to like pitching heavy teams alot lately. You used to be able to list the $10m+ pitchers lower on your card and get them but now you have to put them higher or forget it. It's just interesting to me so I thought I would share. Any thoughts?

For me, maybe its because every neutral or bomber team I try seems to lose 90 games....I have one Longball team on a pace to lose 100+ games :shock: With a smallball team, I only seem to lose 85 games. :wink:

I believe there are several reasons for this trend (although it is not recent):
1. Pitchers are under-priced, especially the top 10 SPs. Pete has an overall winning pecent in the 65% range, no other player in ATGII virtually insures a winning season and a playoff spot than Pete.
2. Cheap OBP is scarce and too expensive. One never sees Cuyler, JJ, Cobb, etc available on the wire. If you miss the big SPs and high OBP you are in a deep hole.
3. The big sluggers, Mantle, Ruth etal are too expensive. It is hard for me to rationalize Pete at $12M and Mantle at $15M (almost) when one compares the net effect on a team, Pete is clearly more valueable.
I run a math model on my teams vs the competiion, invariably a well designed smallball team with some high $$ pitchers is vitually impossible to beat by the numbers.
