Canseco, Baker Bowl team?

Postby Hack Wilson » Fri Apr 28, 2006 11:28 am

I have a waiver frenzy tomorrow with this Baker Bowl team .... http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/atg2/team/team_other.html?user_id=111489

Should I go with Canseco in RF, drop Cuyler and beef up my bullpen? I don't like his injury roll on the 3, but his HRs (and strikeouts, egads) are staggering.

So, any numbers on Canseco? Never used him. Others available include Ott, Ruth, McCovey, Ennis, Furillo, Valentine....but Jose is cheaper.

Lineup thus far:

Morgan
Trammell
W. Mays
Stargell
Cuyler
Hodges
Bench
3B open :?:

Cuyler, K. R RF 1(-3)e9 559 120 29 24 79 68 14 9 .344 .549 .417

These are numbers for a Polo team. He can be pretty valuable.

Canseco, J. 507 77 124 13 3 36 104 64 6 0.245 0.495 0.329 Sportsmans46
Canseco, J. 623 125 170 13 1 64 150 67 7 0.273 0.605 0.343 Exhibition
Canseco, J. 546 79 132 9 1 46 106 53 4 0.242 0.515 0.314 Tiger68
Canseco, J. 626 108 157 13 2 46 121 66 7 0.252 0.5 0.326 Bennett
Of course, Jose's capable of some huge numbers as well.

All that being said, you are pretty heavy right handed. Stargell's a nice balance, but you might need one more LH bat, depending on how your division is set up. With your cash available, I'd be inclined to make a Babelicious move.

Would anyone trade Cuyler for Reggie Jackson in what looks to be a righty-oriented division?

Hack,

I don't think I'd trade Kiki for anyone except maybe a Cobb type player and that would still depend upon the park, division and rest of team.

Cuyler leading off with Morgan batting 2nd would make an awesome top of the order with great speed, defense, OBP and some pop added in.

I'd have to agree about dumping Stargell for Ruth if he's available.

You have enough power in the line up as is . Adding Regiie would add pop but Kiki's obp , speed with Morgan make the table set for the big boppers. Ruth for Pops wouldn't be a bad deal and maybe upgrading injury wise at 1B . Hodges is good but he will get hurt .

Here's a Baker Bowl team of mine that had Cuyler and Morgan. Note they scored an identical 140 runs batting 1-2:

I disagree with EGVRICH about the order, though. I'd bat Morgan first and Cuyler second. They have the same speed. But Morgan can only advance Cuyler one base with his walks. Putting Cuyler in the 2 hole gives your third place hitter a lot of first & third situations.
