I'm assuming this is pre-waivers. What pick do you have?

I'm in the league with him and he's got the 8th pick.

If I'm seeing the free agent list correctly, there's a ton of talent available. If it were me, I'd try to go for Gehringer or Wagner.

I would revamp the starting pitching. Go for a big time $10M+ pitcher. Derringer and Key would be better than Mogridge and Thompson. Brandon should go, of course. It would be nice to get a lefty in the pen. I would downgrade Tincup to Richert, Martinez, or Baumgartner.

Offensively, I like Cochrane and O'Neill better than Bench. Murray's solid. I used to like Doyle. I used to lose. Gehringer or Gilliam would be my 1-2 given what I believe is on the waiver wire. Rolfe's solid. Peck is OK if you can't get a better SS (Wagner's the best choice). Dawson's solid. You can't keep Kaline and Clemente. You should probably keep Clemente. You can find plenty in LF. See if Stephenson and Keller are around.

For a 1st team its not that bad at all . A good core of players

Coveleski , Tincup , Guisti, and Worrell are a good staff start . Mathewson is ok . Mog , to me gives up to many walks . Aguilera isn't a bad 5th man , relief help .

Bench gets hurt alot , I'm not sure if he fits in this park
Eddie will drive in runs , his ave may be down a tad but still drive 'm in
Doyle is a great hitter but his D is lacking .
Rolfe is a keeper
Peck's ok
Dawson keep
Clemente is good but he gets hurts and alot
Kaline is ok but same thing , gets hurt alot

Not a bad 1st try IMO .

I think you have too much in the pen. I think Mathewson is not a good #1, or #2 for that matter.

You should probably stick with Clemente because of the D and the fact he's so good against lefties.

Clemente is one of the best values in Strat.

Here's what I would suggest. Drop Pina for Leal, Drop Gordon for Evers, drop Fernandez for Honus and Kaline for Cleon Jones.

I would then drop Bench for Gibson, Mogridge for Lonborg and pick up Three-finger Brown for Mathewson.

that would give you a nice rotation of Brown, Covleski, Carlton and Lonborg, with a good pen of Tincup, orosco, Giusti and Worrell

That's a real solid pitching staff.

You offense would look great as well--

Gibson (can have surpisingly good seasons sometimes)
Murray
Evers
Wagner
Rolfe
Jones
Dawson
Clemente.

That's a nice offense with good defense and decent speed, and more than sufficient with that pitching staff.

I'd say that would be an 85+ win team.

That would give you the balanced team you were looking for.

Just my €0.02 and with the current exchange rate, worth more than the normal two cents.

MM knows what he's talking about. Would you feel the same about a 2e29 at SS and a 2e27 at 2B? That is what Wagner and Evers are equivalent to.

The only suggestion I have is to look for a backup shortstop. There are differing opinions, but I prefer Bancroft or Risberg.
