I have a strong preference for 3's and 4's in the OF. Especially when they are on my opponents teams.

Seriously, 2's are fine, especially in the OF. In lF or RF they will give up about 9 hits extra per year compared to a 1. Not a biggie.

I forgot to mention. Garvey sucks.

Also I use Bishop all the time for a cheap second baseman in hr-20 parks.
Hasn't seemed to hurt me so far...

What does this mean? Does this mean my team sucks and I have no chance? No bit of advice will help?

Which players should I drop? What kind of players should I replace them with?

Apparently the moves I made were not good ones.

Am I out of my realm in ATG? Should I give up on the season and never come back to this game? :?

I think he just means if you don't run now you'll soon be addicted

Can't really give you many tips myself as my bomber attempts have been mediocre at best, but definitely agree with Frank regarding http://www.diamonddope.com - it analyses the cards for you so you can compare the different players odds of success - extremely useful.

At the end of the day though I'd just go with what felt right, try to find a decent balance in your lineup from 1 through 8 and watch what happens...

A small selection of bomber type teams:

The first two teams start the finals tomorrow.

The second team is my favorite of the group and most reflects my current thinking re bomber teams. There I resurrect two ATGII pariahs, Schmidt and Barfield. Power, defense, OBP.

My point is this. Think for yourself. Don't blindly follow the wisdom of the herd.

Also note the use on the Highlander team of Johnny Moore in RF where he is a 3. I'm happy with the 23 hrs. and .295 average for my 8th hitter who only plays vs. righties. Another example of not following the dictates of ATGII fashion.

Simon we've had some great series and if I recall we have beaten up on each other pretty evenly :) I miss those matchups!!! they were wars LOL
As to the waiver moves you made LM, sigh.......DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!!
get Bando back, Thomas is better than Hack but keep your eyes open for Doby or try to make a trade.... Lazzeri? , try to get Whitaker or Doerr or Gordon and even though I absolutely loathe him Shoendienst or at the very least Doran...,.Berra is a lefty bat but you better hope no one runs on him ..T15 even with a -2 arm is gonna end up in a lot of stolen bases with errors on the throws BUT at least he's a lefty bat that can hit lefties well...Canseco great HR hitter WHEN he isn't striking out or going down for 15 games, I would move Ruth to RF and try to get Goslin or keep Ruth in LF and get Slaughter...... Johnson /Garvey is not something I would do, either keep Garvey as your everyday(and use the money to upgrade else where or drop Garvey for Aikens or Mincher or Fairly or better yet McCovey( also works in LF/RF platooned with Brouhard) or Cash : )....Are you better off? you have better defense in CF, but I think you hurt yourself at 3B, you have better hitting at 2B but worse defense, RF(I'm not a Canseco fan)1B I like Johnson in a platoon but not with Garvey or keep Garvey as your everyday 1B...and I hope you picked up some help in the pen...just my opinions......

Don't let Muttdoc's advice get to you. Another ATG II member has recently outed him as Satan.

I am in your league, different division. I suggest you consider Cepeda and/or Alou. Alou over Gorman in CF IMHO.

Oh Geez LM! You made a lot of moves that personally have me choking. No offense intended. First, defense up the middle is important. I usually sacrifice some hitting at SS to go pure defense and conserve funds for other areas. Bowa, Concepcion or even Crosetti usually do nicely. 2B is also important as most if not all pitchers have a 2bx on a dice roll of 7 on their cards. I'm willing to sacrifice some defense here if I can get Hornsby.
If my defense is solid at SS and 2B I might go with Hack in CF as he does provide some good extra base hit potential. Doby is great if your looking for some solid defense at a low price and has hit 40+ HR's for me in a season. His OPB won't be very high though. If you can't get one of the top bruisers in CF like Mays, Mantle or Snider, Thomas will be very steady player. Horton in LF is vastly underated. I've had him hit 50+ HR's a number of times and for that price, you can't beat it! I have Luzinski on one of my teams now and he seems to be holding his own. .350 OBP for 330 AB's and 22 HR's. Canseco is ok but his injury rating can be a killer.
Bando has been great for me. Great HR potential and a perfect choice at 3B for a bomber team, short of Brett that is. Berra just plain sucks! Injuries, low batting avg....I've had him twice and dropped him twice!
Gorden has hit 50+ HR's for me twice at 2b but his avg. can be erratic.
Good luck LM! It's mostly trial by error and a little luck. ******* HAL
can't hurt either!
