jeffpad.... give HAL lots of choices and you will get better results. Don't skimp on relief to the point there are no good options. Draft 4 relievers... a very good one ....a good one ...and 2 value cheapies. This won't completely do away with the problem....but it will make it tolerable.

addendum to Rob55's response... keep your eye on the cheapies. Make sure that if they are sucking up a majority of innings that they are either quality outings or that the many bad outings are mop-up appearances. I have had guys finish with ERAs around 6.00, yet I was happy with them because they did their job (LH or RH specialist in a close game, setup role) and would get rocked when pitching extended outings....

And it often takes a few teams before you get a sense of what settings work and which ones don't. It seems to me that some override others on a single player's card, so while many options are good for HAL - too many only confuses HAL....

By the way, HAL is a reference to the evil computer in the book/movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" - and supposedly a subtle reference by Clarke (author) to IBM (which are the next letters in the alphabet from HAL).

And of course, to Hal Richman, the father of Strat-O-Matic.
