A Stratomatic Christmas

I have only played Axis & Allies in the last 10 years. I have it on CD, and since I can never find anyone to play against, I just play the computer. Much easier than setting up the board. but every game turns out the same. I play USSR, England and US and the computer is Germany and Japan, and I always end up defeating Germany first, then beating Japan.

I love Axis & Allies. I'll play different countries but I always put my opponents on the highest AI level and my allies and the lowest... It doesn't change a thing. I win all the time.

I'd love to be able to play with someone else.

My first SOM game was the '68 baseball version. I was always seeing the SOM ad in the back of the Sporting News and finally decided to try it. I replayed the entire '68 NL schedule, I loved it so much. I've been a Fanatic ever since.

I started playing in '78 and initially had just a handful of teams... FAVORITE MEMORY is one specific game... my beloved 62 Mets against the titan 54 Giants (THAT is a team that needs to be in ATGIII...), and the Mets won with something like 6 runs in the 8th, assisted by an error by Willie Mays (!) with two outs --- still have the scoresheet upstairs somewhere and vividly remember turning over that split card and seeing that "1"... I got a few converts in College too, playing favorite teams from '82.

I was looking for a CD rom disk for Macs when I stumbled on this site a couple of years ago... have been in heaven since

Axis and Apples

Postby Palanion » Thu Dec 29, 2005 11:48 am

Moody, I too was searching high and low for Strat for the Mac - [b:a1de4b51da]maybe someday guys?[/b:a1de4b51da] - and happened upon this.... This may be better... I had a beta-demo of Strat for Apple that had four teams. I downloaded it... what... 7-8 years ago. It had, I think, the 78 Dodgers, 34 Cards... umm can't remember. I just recall Rick Monday and Charlie Hough kicking butt against those three other teams.

As for Axis and Allies.... A number of friends and I love strategy games in general. My wife and I will spend hours and hours playing Eurorails, as an example. However, I am not a big fan of war games. I never got into games like Panzer Blitz, Panzer Bluff, Battle of the Bulge, etc. (but my brother did). Still, I really enjoy Axis & Allies.
At a gaming vacation week in the mountains this fall, I arrived on a Thursday night about 10 p.m. and left Saturday morning about noon. All I played was Axis and Allies. We started at noon on Friday. By 10 p.m., though we had lost cities and waged monumental attacks, the two sides were still even in victory cities. At 2 a.m., back again at even, we went to bed. We reconvened after breakfast Saturday and it was over in one hour. The funny thing... There were only three original players still playing at the end, and one of them had left and returned playing a different faction. :)

Strat for me always was a Birthday present. My birthday is feb 8 so my parents always ordered the new cards in January so they would arrive to be given to me on my birthday. I never came out of my room until the real opening day in April!
With the Indiana winters I stayed locked up playing Strat from Nov-April every year and of course I played many a summer night until the sun came up the next morning.

Let's play Strat board Football!!!

Seriously, there's gotta be a way.......

It was like Religion to me and a friend of mine, so much so we played over the phone!

We loved the game way too much to even think about cheating.
