WHO ARE THE BEST NICKLE (.50) PLAYERS???

Postby MIKEGILBERT » Tue Jan 10, 2006 11:10 pm

I go through phases with nickle guys, so here are the current favorites:

Batter: - Harry Walker
Pitcher: Rip Coleman

I also sometimes use Crawford as a righty specialist, he sometimes works well if I can keep him from getting more that 40 IP in a season. I often pair him with Dreisewerd (.60) to face lefties.

L. Hernandez can be a very effective PH vs LH pitching.

I got a great year out of Osinski the only time I used him.

Also, Norm McMillan at 3B, Spike Owen at SS and Buster Adams as a backup OF in hitter's park. Just missing the .50 mark - Jerry Adair(.57) and pitcher Red Faber (.54).

Hallelujah! Another vote for the Preacher. He has done well for me in pitcher's parks and unbalanced lefty parks (which is weird b/c his card is even).

More Nickel Players

Al Weis is an excellent defensive utility infielder. Bobby Brown -- he can run and he's a switch hitter and rips righties. Rudy Regalado -- excellent clutch hitter. Stu Miller pitches well against righties.

My frequent roster guys are
H - Killefer, Weis, Wood, Averill, H. Walker, Wera (in the right platoon), Gaspar, K. Davis, Zimmerman,

P - Osinski, Garman, ALL the SP only guys, particularly Tudor and Sellers

And I am probably forgetting someone. Kiddo is my current favorite .50 hitter. He just hit .297 (74 ab) with 0 errors as a def. specialist replacing Oglivie (and R. Smith in CF, before I cut his butt) in Y56.

Postby Ruths ruffians » Fri Jun 02, 2006 1:01 pm

I really enjoyed the feedback I got on this thread and I felt it was so useful that I thought I would bring it back on Friday when alot of leagues start. Great information when you are looking for bargain guys.

Enjoy and happy Friday!
