The 1989 Giants challenge you to a theme

Postby Proverbial Psalms » Sat Sep 17, 2011 3:59 pm

I am up for doing another league... in addition to the Expos, I wanted to do the 79 Pirates, 76-80 Phillies, Red Sox and Astros... so Bernie and Bbrool wants to go again we'd get another division quickly filled in 2nd league after this one starts.

Yeah,

I will throw another one of these themes together as well soon, if we have more interest.

I don't HAVE to be the Brewers. I'll be happy to pick another team, and I'd announce it before I started putting it together. Just let me know, apolivka, if you still want to put your Brewers in. Also let me know if you want me to make sure you take that last spot in the East, of if it doesn't matter.

I think I can find most of the 1992 Blue Jays in this mix, so will put that team together next.

Once this league gets filled I will start another league.

Also when the dust settles there is likely to be a roster conflict or two. Players that I threw in my bullpen, might ultimately be one of the rosters closers. I will expect a gentleman's agreement to try and trade around he pieces if necessary after the draft runs.

As an example, Gossage was in the 1989 bullpen and I have put one of his cheaper cards on my roster, but if someone were to put together the 1978 Yankees, then Gossage belongs on that roster, since he was a more integral part of that roster. the only thing I would like to avoid is two rosters using with the same player who was integral (say 1973 A's and 1978 Yankees, were only one team can use Reggie).

Totally agree... I had wanted Grimsley for my Montreal team, but knew you took him... but it was clear to me that he played a much more significant role with Baltimore so I'd agree he should be on Orioles.

Tried to fit my childhood team (Big Red Machine) in but it cost $65M, so as a tribute to my dad, I took his childhood team ('60 Pirates)

In ATG6 most of that team is already assembled with that year, so I don't have to pick players from diff. years (probably a negative, but hey, we're all working on a $60M cap so who cares)

anyway, I present my '60 Bucs lineup at a price just under $60M

Smith
Wilson
Mazeroski
Hoak
Groatt
Skinner
Virdon
Clemente
Burgess
Stuart
Cimoli
Christopher
G. Baker '55 KC card
2 players at .50 (one of which will be dropped)

Friend
Law
Mizell
Haddix
Gibbon
Cheney
Umbricht
Face
Green
Labine '59 LAD card

Here's what I see so far:

1. '89 Giants - Bbrool
2. '77 Orioles - Cruiser
3. '80 Expos - Wjanssen
4. '80 Phillies - Carr 20
5. '82 Brewers - Bernieh/Apolivka
6. '60 Pirates - Paul_Long
7. '75 Red Sox - Andy Cummings

I hope I'm assuming right that if the guy has a card in the year of your team you took that card and not a better one. For example, I am the '60 Pirates so I have to take Clemente's 1960 card not one of his better ones.

If you do another league with a higher cap (100 or 140m), I would take a team.
